JOB DESCRIPTION: College Counsellor
Job TitleCollege Counsellor
LocationAhmedabad
Reports to Head of Senior School & IB Coordinator.
The college counsellor works with the students from Grade 9 to 12 to help them secure admissions in a course and a college of their choice and also helps improve the school profile to attract colleges/ universities.
Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising and supporting classes of 75 Grade 12 students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely.
Meeting with 11th and 12th grade students, individually and in groups, to talk about process and individual college choices.
Advising 9th and 10th graders on curricular choices, as needed, and works with students to understand college admissions for different educational systems, especially aspects unique to them.
Meeting with new students and families in Grades 9-12 to discuss course choices and develop schedules.
Meeting with all college admissions representatives who visit the school and facilitating meetings between college representatives and our students. The College Counsellor also serves as a liaison with College admissions offices throughout the year.
Compiling an annual Profile of the School, as well as information on grade distributions in IGCSE and IB and courses offered at the school.
Writing an official school recommendation for assigned Grade 12 students. To do so, the Counsellor gathers information from parents, teachers, school records, and students themselves. The College Counsellor also completes all School Report and mid-year report forms requested by colleges, including evaluations of students.
Keeping the parents informed through a weekly newsletter, and in letters about test dates, local college events, and financial aid.
Keeping track of admission decisions, statistics, and providing data to the Head of School/ Heads for Board Report purposes.
Making informational presentations to parents, such as Community Information Sessions to parents of 9th and 10th graders, parents of 11th graders, and parents of 12th graders.
Being aware of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, as well as keeping up-to-date about specific colleges and maintaining membership in professional organizations: the College Board, International Association of College Admissions Counsellors (IACAC), ACT, and other organizations; representing the school at relevant conferences and events.
Maintaining and disseminating information about standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, and TOEFL, helping to administer AP, PSAT, ACT (Explore, PLAN) exams, and working with the Academic Support Team to arrange for or extended time on these tests, as warranted; will also be expected to support in proctoring pre-university testing .
Any other duties as assigned by the Heads.
Education Qualifications
Graduate or Postgraduate in any subject
Certification in College counselling
Skills
Sound subjective knowledge for the college admission process
Strong communication skills (Written & Oral both)
Experience or familiarity of working with a College counselling software
Understanding of the Cambridge and the IB Curriculum
Strong administrative, organizational skills & IT skills
