IBDP Coordinator
Reports to: Deputy Principal (Secondary)
Role Description:
The IB Diploma Programme Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the implementation of the programme in the school. The IBDP Coordinator is expected to have thorough understanding of the programme and is expected to keep herself/himself updated with the changes made by the IB in the programme. The IBDP Coordinator will report to the Principal and will liaise with other section coordinators to ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of curriculum.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Direction and Development of the Senior Secondary School:
a. To ensure the IB Mission statement is implemented in the Diploma Programme through various learning experiences.
b. Work with the Senior Secondary school academic team across all academic areas to implement the revised curriculum (July 2018) taking into account the needs, experiences, interests, aptitudes and stages of development of the learners and the resources available to the school.
c. Ensure that the curriculum implementation is aligned with the Board to which the school is affiliated.
d. Ensure all Senior Secondary School Teaching Staff are committed to the school’s aims, and are motivated and involved in the achievement of the priorities and targets which the school sets for itself, and are provided with the necessary support and guidance in order to implement the relevant action plans successfully.
e. To conduct/participate in collaborative meetings with teachers across the Senior Secondary school, grade-wise and subject-wise (in coordination with HODs).
f. Develop a culture of coaching/ mentoring and peer support to enable teachers to develop professionally and facilitate learner success.
g. Liaise with the school leadership team to ensure smooth transition of learners from Gr. 10 to Diploma Programme Year 1.
h. Ensure that the progress of the learners at the school is assessed, effectively recorded, and monitored, and the findings used to inform strategic planning to improve learning and achievement.
i. Ensure the achievement of threshold and target academic scores/grades, as devised for the IBDP examination results, through the implementation of a range of interventions and strategies, customised to the needs of individual learners.
j. Prepare Predicted Grades in consultation with the subject teachers.
k. Analyze and use available school- based and comparative data to assist in raising standards in the curriculum, researched and benchmarked against the best, to incorporate best practices.
l. Coordinate with the Enrichment Cell and School Counselor in order to ensure differentiated learning, learner support and remediation, behavior modification and management, in order to motivate the learners and guide them to achieve their individual potentials.
m. Coordinate with IB Board to ensure that learners with special needs/diagnosed learning disabilities, receive the appropriate accommodations offered by the Board; submit requests for inclusive assessment arrangements for candidates with assessment access requirements, as per timelines set down by the Board.
n. Liaise with Career Counselor and guide and counsel learners and parents in making appropriate subject choices for the IBDP Programme.
o. Plan and organize educational excursions and field trips for Senior Secondary learners.
p. Ensure that Senior Secondary school value-add programmes to the curriculum and optional club activities are delivered as per planned curriculum scope and sequence and expected standards of delivery in order to achieve planned outcomes.
2. Instructional Leadership:
a. Implement the revised curriculum (July 2018), and supporting practices and approaches, in a way that is relevant to the needs of the learners and enables all learners to achieve.
b. To guide and support teachers in preparing Unit Plans and related Assessment tasks.
c. Ensure that teachers are provided access to the IB teacher support sites and that they are aware of the resources available on the site.
d. Promote and maintain an environment within the Senior Secondary School that secures high standards of planning, organisation, teaching, learning, behavior and achievement.
e. Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of learning and achievement for all learners by conducting regular classroom observations.
f. Ensure that appropriate tech-enabled teaching-learning strategies are implemented in the classroom by teachers, as applicable to the age group of learners and the planned learning outcomes of the unit; ensure that all available hardware and software are optimally used in order to achieve this objective and that teachers receive the necessary training in order to employ the same.
g. Monitor, review and evaluate the implementation of the Senior Secondary School’s co-curricular programme in collaboration with the school’s Deputy Principal (Senior Secondary), to ensure that co-curricular programmes are delivered as per planned curriculum scope and sequence and expected standards of delivery in order to achieve planned outcomes.
3. Administration of the Programme:
a. Ensure that the IB Mission statement is implemented in the Diploma Programme through various learning experiences.
b. Register candidates for planned examination sessions, according to DP deadlines.
c. Ensure the submission of learner’s work on the IBIS as per the DP timelines and guidelines.
d. Conduct the written examinations in compliance with the instructions as per the IB procedural requirements.
e. Work with section heads across the school to draft the School Calendar for Parents and teachers.
f. Ensure that scheduled events are planned, organized and implemented as per the school’s Event Policy and expected quality standards, in order to achieve planned outcomes.
g. To draft budget for the Senior Secondary section along with the Senior Management Team of the school.
4. Human Resource Management and Development
a. Participate in the selection and appointment of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.
b. Monitor and provide teachers with timely, constructive and pertinent feedback.
c. Exercise responsibility for the supervision, training and capacity building of teachers; Work to identify opportunities for continuing professional development including in- house training, external courses and job- related capacity building opportunities.
d. Provide regular updates to the Board Members, COO, CFO & Head Office Academic Team, on staffing, recruitment, performance management and other areas.
e. Ensure that both teaching/non-teaching staff are aware of and comply with school policies and procedures, counseling and taking corrective measures where required in case of non-compliance
5. Effective deployment of staff and resources:
a. Work with the Home Room Teachers to allocate, control and account for the financial and material resources of the school, which are under the control of the Deputy Principal (Secondary)
b. Monitor and review the effective use of resources in order to ensure the curriculum is delivered in an appropriate manner, keeping in mind the progress of the learners.
6. Relationship with Parents:
a. Implement and monitor processes/ procedures for parents to be given regular information about the school curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the school, so as to promote common understanding of its aims.
b. Recognize and support the work of the parents in supporting school initiatives.
c. Identify and offer opportunities for approved parent volunteers to support the work of the school in terms of curriculum, co- and extra-curricular activities.
7. School Communication:
a. Ensure that communication with all stakeholders, verbal and written, follows the school’s communication protocols
b. Engage with parents keeping in mind the school’s culture and vision, in the best interests of each learner and to secure his/her all round development.
c. Facilitate communication to staff to ensure the appropriate dissemination of information.
8. Admissions:
