Bala Mandir Kamaraj Trust Hiring For Teacher Cum Coordinator at T Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu Full Time

Bala Mandir is a 70-year-old non-profit organisation based in T. Nagar in Chennai. It is actively working in the various areas of child welfare through its “home” for orphans/destitute children, “schools” for the needy section, a unit focused on “special children” as well as an “outreach activity” to impact other needy children by sharing best practices in early childhood development and other initiatives.

Bala Mandir schools have been in place since the 1950s and are currently undergoing a major re-engineering of all its processes. The schools located centrally in T. Nagar have excellent infrastructure facilities. The schools cater to the Bala Mandir home children and the children from the nearby urban slums. The primary school is focused on English medium and has around 300 children and tries to bring the best pedagogy and processes for the very needy section.

The Satyamurthi High school has both Tamil and English medium with English medium being self-financed and Tamil medium having Government aided teachers. The English medium Higher Secondary classes have been started recently. The school has taken number of initiatives to improve academics and bring focus on individual child. The plan is in place to grow the student strength from the current 150 to over 400 while continuing to focus on holistic development of the children through co-curricular activities on Saturdays.

The Bala Mandir school serves the very needy section of society and does not charge any tuition fees. The school is funded by CSR funds and students pay a very small part of direct expenses. A common Director of Education heads all the schools while each school has its own Head Mistress and Coordinators.

Bala Mandir is looking for a “Teacher cum Coordinator” for its High School / Higher Secondary classes. The ideal candidate would be someone with an understanding of the high school processes and a passion to teach English and/or Maths. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 to 5 years full-time classroom teaching experience, preferably in high school with an ability to connect with, inspire and motivate adolescent students, while understanding their challenges. The position will report to the Director of Education and work with her to influence and motivate the school team, including the teachers.

Bala Mandir is an independently professionally run organisation. Besides the paid staff, there is a small group of dedicated volunteers who take specific responsibilities in running the institution. Bala Mandir also has a board of trustees who not only safeguard the assets of the organisation but also advise and guide Bala Mandir in all its new initiatives.
