Cisco’s Networking organization is one that builds on the wonderful history of Cisco inventing and leading the global networking industry. The opportunity in front of all of us is unbelievable. Networks around the globe have been growing for over 35 years, and we are still at the beginning! It’s hard to imagine that three billion of the world’s eight billion people are still unconnected or underserved. Soon enough, we will move from billions of connected things and people to trillions of connected things and people. With the rise of the public cloud, connectivity is no longer simply physical access but includes virtual connectivity. And all this connectivity is central to every experience and every economy around the world. Cisco has been synonymous with connectivity for the last 35 years, and we are excited about creating the next era of connectivity with you.
One of the things that stands out to me is the amount of amazing innovation and passion in every team. We build great products with employees who have a deep passion for winning and want to help our customers solve their greatest connectivity challenges.
Cisco has always had great innovation, but in the past this innovation and our potential have often been hindered by organizational and product silos. By bringing our teams closer, centralizing, and synchronizing our operations, we will accelerate innovation to enable our customers to simplify everything! Global Business Operations is a business unit within Cisco’s Networking organization that has been tasked to centralizing our Operations practices as a service across Networking while continuing to support Cisco Networking’s businesses. Our mission is to transform Cisco’s operational efficiencies by using real time data and insights and synchronized business processes to drive business decisions and accelerate the delivery of our strategic agendas. This will enable our vision, which is to increase both the human and cost efficiencies within Cisco, that will enable faster execution of our employees as well as free up capital that will allow us to afford resources earlier than would have been expected. The result is increased Operational Leverage generated by increased operating income, profit, and revenues for Cisco. You would be joining the Networking team, and the Global Business Operations organization to fulfill this mission and vision by helping us continue to develop enhancements to the Command Center systems that run Internal Operations.
What You’ll Do
In short, you’ll help us develop software and lead our team. You’ll be contributing to a Cisco home-grown Web Application that we affectionately call Command Center that runs internal operations activities across 35,000 employees today.
As a leader of our newly created team, you will be focused on delivering new systems. By that we mean developing new systems to add to our Command Center. Delivering features, designing, performing bug fixes, testing, and stabilizing our systems. The improvements we deliver will help the adoption and impact of our systems across Cisco. We are crafting a centralized fulfillment structure to manage many operational functions with our own internally developed Business Operations Command Center Toolset while aligning our organizations with the necessary training, documented procedures, operations, and tools. All of this is underway, and we would like you to be a part of our team and contribute broadly to our organization.
The background: Cisco’s Networking Centralized Operations team is on a mission and becoming a game changer organization within Cisco. We are doing this by taking a digitally automated and synchronized approach to managing our expenses and our workforce using our own internal system. We work with our partner organizations and enable our colleagues to perform their duties with less operational friction, thereby allowing our workforce to provide Cisco with stronger results & greater focus. We experience the business as thought leaders, having invented a Business Operations Web Application that helps us to simplify our day-to-day duties and optimize everything that we are responsible for (finances and our workforce). This portfolio of business operations apps is affectionately called our Command Center. This is the Web Application that you will be contributing to. Using the Command Center, we are reinvesting our financial and resource efficiency gains back into the business, thereby accelerating the strategic agenda of the organizations that we serve. Within the Command Center we have scalable processes focused on continuous improvement. We have implemented our Command Center successfully across 10,000 employees in Cisco today, and we are in the progress of launching our system across an additional 25,000 employees today. Our numbers of Command Center users are growing rapidly with no end in sight. Our adoption has reached peaks of 85% across the 10,000 people we serve today, and we are seeing massive increases in adoption as we launch across the other areas of Cisco today. We are also implementing a centralized fulfillment structure of Super Users.
You’ll be helping to lead our Software Development team that has created and owns Command Center today. Naturally we have daily stand-ups, sprints, and we practice Scrum. Our activities on the software team responsible for Command Center include New Module build projects, continuous enhancements, sustainability, and constant problem solving with the team. We also build relationships with owners of other systems in Cisco, that we collaborate with frequently to help achieve our objectives. We continuously monitor the systems we own for reliability, speeds, and accuracy of data. These are constantly paramount to our service delivery and our success. We are experiencing magic daily with the team’s software development skillsets and our ability to problem solve. We are close in nature and have a lovely team environment with a great deal of cross functional full stack support. Both Back-End, UI/UX responsibilities as well as bug fixing is shared across the team. We are building SW leaders in Cisco and are currently up for awards for our Innovation. Our software team is small, but mighty!
You would be joining a Business Operations team that includes SW Development, Tactical Operations, and Strategic Operations teams, all with clear vision and plenty of opportunity to tackle. Together these three groups are Operations as a Service.
Who You Are
We need you if you have a strong interest in business operational practices and have a desire develop software tools to facilitate and optimize business practices for Cisco. The tools you will be maintaining and developing will track, report and analyze intelligence metrics that will set, monitor and drive improved financial results. You will be responsible for reviewing, learning, maintaining, implementing and improving systems and processes that help the organization scale and run more efficiently. This role is highly collaborative, and we will work with many organizations to deliver value.
You should have full stack web application development experience and be passionate about learning the behind-the-scene operations of a company – how things work, why they are the way they are and what we can do to make things better. You should be hungry for knowledge and eager to get things done in a team environment!
