General Description
The World Bank requires professionals for its Document Editing Services team in Chennai, India. The team offers copyediting and formatting services to task teams across regions and global practices on project documents and Advisory Services and Analytics documents.
The Short Term Temporary will carry out copy editing and formatting of a variety of documents from the global practices in accordance with stringent industry standards and following World Bank-specific conventions. In addition, the candidate will assist in formatting of presentations and charts.
The working hours for the Document Editing Services team are from 11 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. The candidate may be required to come on a different shift if there is a business need. The team operates out of the Chennai office the candidate will need to be available for work based on the work load.
Responsibilities:
The Short Term Temporary will be responsible for the following:
· Identifying and correcting mechanical and stylistic errors
· Ensuring document consistency in style and format
· Improving overall readability by amending inelegant wording, ambiguous vocabulary and syntax, redundancies and verbosity, and jargon
· Checking references in line with the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines
· Formatting documents and presentations.
Skills
Candidates must possess the following specialized skills:
· Fluency in English with strong written and oral communication skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
· Familiarity with style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style; ability to quickly adapt to new styles and guidelines
· Self-motivated person with a high degree of initiative; strong team player
· Ability to work effectively under time pressure with high capacity to produce quality work
· Collaborative, curious, and innovative while being able to adapt to working in a large development finance institution.
Education & Experience
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree and have one to two years of work experience as technical editor, technical writer, or content developer. Engineers, software developers, and project managers with strong writing/editing skills will also be considered.
