About This Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Research Assistant to apply their subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques to the Wells group at Frazer Institute. The Research Assistant will use a range of tissue culture, molecular biology, and animal experimental knowledge and/or expertise to support research aiming to generate new drugs for use in the treatment of cancer.
Key responsibilities will include:

Grow and maintain a range of cancer cell lines.

Perform experiments and generate reports.

As required, carry out sample preparation and analysis on the instruments to satisfy and accomplish research outcomes.

Perform tumour models in mice and assess outcomes of drug treatments.

Take responsibility for general lab maintenance and lab ordering.

Assist in the day-to-day activities and operations of the team.

Engage external technical help as required.

Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the Research Facilities Manager
Safety
-
Contributes to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols.

Ensures the appropriate storage, handling and disposal of chemicals, equipment, stores and/or samples/specimens.
Research and administrative support
-
Assists with drafting research documentation, including ethics and funding applications.
-
Undertakes literature searches and reviews.
-
Assists with routine team administration.
-
Assists with preparing reports, graphs, figures and presentations on research outcomes at different stages of the research cycle outcomes.

About You
The Research Professionals (Technical) Job Family provides a range of technical and specialist skills and services, which support and enable research activities.

Completion of a relevant degree in molecular biology or a related laboratory-based discipline with subsequent experience working as a research assistant.

Demonstrated expertise in a wide range of specialist and general research techniques at all stages of the research cycle.

Expertise in the application of cell culture, genotyping, RT-PCR, plasmid transfection
-
Significant experience of working with mice and collecting and processing tissues.
-
Advanced technical capabilities in cell culture and the conduct of cell-based assays.
-
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
-
Ability to work independently on routine procedures.
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-
Well-organised, methodical and self-motivated.
-
Previous experience in a similar role would be considered favourably.
What We Can Offer
This is a Full-time, 100% FTE Fixed-term position through to 31 Dec 2023 with the possibility of extension at HEW 5 Level.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $74,378 – $82,842 plus super of up to 17% The total FTE package will be in the range $87,023 – $96,926 per annum.
