Akanksha Foundation is a non-profit organisation with the mission “to build one of the most innovative school networks that empowers children from low income communities to maximise their potential”. Akanksha currently serves 10,000 children and 4000 alumni, through its 26 schools in Pune, Mumbai & Nagpur Metropolitan Regions in partnership with the municipalities.
Position: Vocational Skill Teacher
Location: Mumbai
Responsibilities: The Vocational Skills Teacher will set up and start the skill development subject at Akanksha Schools. This subject will be based on the SSC-recognized Multi-Skill Foundation Course Curriculum (MSFC) covering four modules of Workshop & Engineering, Energy and Environment, Gardening and Agriculture, and Food Processing Techniques.
The teacher’s responsibilities are divided into three broad buckets:
A – Program Implementation (60% time)
● Teach theory, conduct practicals, and take regular tests on all the four modules of MSFC
● Set up & maintain lab for conducting practical
● Raw material procurement
● Maintenance and Inventory of tools and raw material
● Make lesson plans as per curriculum & conduct practical sessions accordingly.
● Ensure timely completion of syllabus.
● Submit monthly reports and other required documents of the project regularly and timely.
● Maintain photos and video documentation of all school related activities.
● Motivate students to actively participate in training.
● Build a positive and strong school culture, with a focus on learning and joy
● Build awareness of Skill Development in parents of students through regular meetings and home visits
● Visit and learn from external organizations and bring the learning to your school
B – Mentoring students (20% time)
● Mentor all students to identify a trade of their choice to specialize in further
● Help in identifying careers for students to pursue vocational skills after Grade X
C – Leading projects in school (20% time)
● Lead one or two projects to improve student exposure, such as bringing industry experts to your school, partnering with industries for internships, etc.
● Organize World Youth Skill Day, and Engineers’ Day to spread awareness of skill education.
What do you need for this position?
● Required:
➢ ITI certificate in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Welding/ Fitter/ Turner trades
➢ Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
➢ Basic Computer skills
● Preferred: Teaching/Industry experience in any of the four modules for 1+ years
● Skills and Attitudes –
➢ S/he should have sound knowledge of the technical subjects and good basic general knowledge.
➢ S/he should have good teaching / mentoring skills.
➢ S/he should have a pro-entrepreneurial attitude and should have strong belief in the skills and abilities of aspiring entrepreneurs, the ability to identify them and create opportunities for special mentoring for such cases.
➢ S/he should be self-driven and should possess an attitude of perseverance, proactivity, critical thinking and willingness to learn.
➢ S/he should remain committed towards strong values of Integrity, Commitment, Accountability and Transparency at every level of work.
Job Types: Full-time, Regular / Permanent
Salary: ₹30,000.00 – ₹32,000.00 per month
