Teach For Change is a non profit organisation working to improve the quality of education in government schools in India. Established in 2014 by Ms. Lakshmi Manchu the organisation runs two programs that address the foundational challenges faced by our government schools. The flagship volunteer program provides volunteer teachers to government schools which are understaffed and face a lack of leadership. The Smart Classroom program addresses the need to improve the foundational literacy and numeracy among children from low income communities studying in government schools.

Role & Responsibilities:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Teach For Change plays a pivotal role in driving the organisation’s mission to enhance the quality of education in government schools across India. The CEO provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and efficient management to ensure the effective implementation of various programs.

1. Strategic Leadership and Vision: Define and communicate the organisation’s vision, mission, and strategic goals and lead the organisation towards achieving its mission of improving education in government schools.

2. Program Oversight: Direct the flagship volunteer program and the Smart Classroom program, ensuring they align with the organisation’s objectives and monitor the effectiveness of these programs and make necessary improvements.

3. Financial Management: Manage the organisation’s financial resources to support programs and operations effectively and handle the overall budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation.

4. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, partners, and communities and also represent Teach For Change in various public events, media engagements, and advocacy efforts.

5. Team Empowerment and Leadership: Lead, motivate, and empower the staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment and provide direction to the program team for effective program implementation.

6. Fundraising and Financial Sustainability: Engage in fundraising activities to secure financial support for the organisation’s initiatives and ensure financial sustainability of the organisation by diversifying funding sources. Organise the annual fundraiser, including securing sponsors, selecting chief guests, and managing pre and post- production logistics.

7. Governance and Compliance: Ensure the organisation operates in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and uphold good governance practices within the organisation.

8. Annual Planning and Reporting: Prepare the annual budget, ensuring it aligns with the organisation’s strategic priorities. Ensure compliance with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) requirements. Organise and lead annual board meetings.

Overall, the CEO of Teach For Change holds a critical position in the organisation’s leadership, with responsibilities encompassing strategic planning, program management, financial stewardship, stakeholder engagement, team leadership, impact assessment, fundraising, governance, and event management. The CEO’s overarching goal is to drive positive change and innovation within the education landscape of government schools in India.

Qualifications:

– A master’s degree in social work, education, business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred.
– Proven leadership experience in a senior management role, preferably within the education sector or nonprofit organizations.
– Strong understanding of the challenges and dynamics of the Indian education system, particularly in government schools.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and represent the organization.
– Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
– Experience in strategic planning, program management, and financial stewardship.
– Proven track record in fundraising and securing financial support from diverse sources.
– Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for nonprofits and good governance practices.
– Experience in event management, particularly in organizing fundraising events and public engagements.
