Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Scratch & Python Mentor at FcC. The mentor will lead live online coding sessions for children and teens, introducing core programming concepts through Scratch and progressively advancing to Python. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning engaging lessons aligned with FcC’s curriculum, delivering interactive classes, and adapting explanations to diverse learning styles and age groups. The mentor will monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and assign practice tasks or projects that reinforce computational thinking and problem-solving. Additional responsibilities include communicating with caregivers as needed, maintaining accurate records of student performance, and collaborating with the academic team to refine teaching materials and approaches.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Scratch and Python, with the ability to explain programming concepts (loops, conditionals, variables, functions, basic data structures) in a clear and age-appropriate way.
• Experience teaching or mentoring children and teens in coding, STEM, or related subjects, ideally in an online or classroom setting.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and classroom management skills, with a patient, encouraging, and learner-centered approach.
• Ability to design or adapt interactive coding activities, projects, and assignments that foster creativity, logical reasoning, and computational thinking.
• Comfort with online teaching tools and learning platforms, including video conferencing, shared coding environments, and digital collaboration tools.
• Strong organizational skills, including lesson preparation, time management during sessions, and consistent tracking of learner progress.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in teaching programming.
• Prior experience in after-school programs, coding bootcamps, or educational startups is a plus.
• Commitment to an inclusive, respectful learning environment and the ability to work effectively with learners from diverse backgrounds.
