Job Description
Overall Objective: To be the key persons in identifying the patient problem and treating them with care.
Responsibilities and key tasks
- Identifying patient’s developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders;
- Planning and providing appropriate treatment
- Undertaking patient assessments
- Assessing and treating swallowing and communication difficulties arising from a variety of causes, e.g. congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders after a stroke or injury;
- Devising, implementing and revising relevant treatment programmes;
- Advising carers on implementing treatment programmes and training other professionals in therapy delivery;
- Assessing communication environments;
- Monitoring and evaluating patients’ progress;
- Working with patients on a one-to-one basis, and in groups, to deliver therapy;
- Giving advice and support to patients & family members.
