Overall Objective: To be the key persons in identifying the patient problem and treating them with care.

Responsibilities and key tasks

• Identifying patient’s developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders;
• Planning and providing appropriate treatment
• Undertaking patient assessments
• Assessing and treating swallowing and communication difficulties arising from a variety of causes, e.g. congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders after a stroke or injury;
• Devising, implementing and revising relevant treatment programmes;
• Advising carers on implementing treatment programmes and training other professionals in therapy delivery;
• Assessing communication environments;
• Monitoring and evaluating patients’ progress;
• Working with patients on a one-to-one basis, and in groups, to deliver therapy;
• Giving advice and support to patients & family members.

• Education/Experience
• Degree in Speech Therapy. (MASLP / BASLP / DHLS)
• 2-4 years working experience as a Speech Therapist.
