Job Role: Academic CounselorJob Location: BengaluruPosition Summary:A Student Counselor plays a crucial role in supporting and guiding students in their personal, social, and academic development. This position involves providing counseling services to students, addressing their emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs, and assisting them in achieving their educational goals. Student Counselors collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes student well-being and success.Key Responsibilities:Individual Counseling: Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address their personal concerns, emotional challenges, and behavioral issues. Provide a safe and confidential space for students to discuss their problems, develop coping strategies, and explore solutions.Group Counseling: Facilitate group counseling sessions to address common issues affecting students, such as peer pressure, self-esteem, stress management, and conflict resolution. Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages open communication and mutual respect among students.Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to critical incidents or emergencies affecting students’ mental health, such as suicidal ideation, self-harm, or traumatic experiences. Implement appropriate crisis intervention techniques, assess risk levels, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of students.Academic Support: Assist students in setting academic goals, improving study skills, and enhancing time management and organizational abilities. Provide guidance on course selection, career exploration, and college or university admissions.Consultation and Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student concerns and provide effective interventions. Consult with teachers regarding student progress, behavior management strategies, and classroom accommodations. Collaborate with parents to support their child’s social-emotional well-being and coordinate resources both within and outside the school.Prevention Programs: Develop and implement prevention programs and workshops on topics like bullying, substance abuse, mental health awareness, and conflict resolution. Promote positive school culture and well-being through awareness campaigns, student-led initiatives, and community involvement.Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes, assessments, and progress reports. Prepare reports as required for administration, parents, or external agencies.Professional Development: Stay updated on current counseling practices, therapeutic techniques, and relevant legal and ethical guidelines. Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.Qualifications and Skills:Any degree , psychology, or a related field.Relevant counseling experience, preferably in an educational setting.Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and evidence-based interventions.Familiarity with developmental stages and challenges faced by students.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust and rapport with students.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.Knowledge of legal and ethical guidelines related to counseling.Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse student populations.Strong organizational and time management skills.Well versed in JEE and NEET admission process
