The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders.

Brief of the Centre and Deliverables:
The Ramalingaswami Centre on Equity and Social Determinants of Health was set up to advance thinking about equity and the social determinants of health in India via research, teaching/training and policy development. The Centre in Bangalore is looking for a senior academic with considerable proven research, teaching, and administrative skills and experience to be hired as a Research Professor. As a senior member of the Centre, s/he would be expected to undertake her own research, teaching/training and policy support, along with project coordination, fund-raising and administrative support as approved by the Director. S/he is expected to contribute significantly to all aspects of the Centre’s work.

PHFI is looking forward to expanding its research Faculty pool for the The Ramalingaswami Centre on Equity and Social Determinants of Health. Therefore, we invite applications from candidates who are exceptionally bright, motivated and committed towards a dedicated teaching career.

Some of the key area of responsibilities will include mainly, the following:

S/he will work under the direct supervision of the Centre’s Director. Major roles and responsibilities would be to support the Director in providing research, administrative and technical leadership that includes-

Undertaking, promoting, and facilitating research, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in areas related to the goals of the Centre

Building and enhancing research capacity at the Centre, including writing new project proposals

Supporting the Centre to broaden and deepen its work in training and teaching

Developing networks between the Centre and national and international researchers and institutions

Developing collaborations, as relevant and applicable, between PHFI and external stakeholders, including civil society and community with respect to public health initiatives

Transferring knowledge to society and stakeholders through outreach (e.g. collaborative research; seminars; workshops; lectures; websites; publications)

Developing strong linkages with constituent units of PHFI (Institutes, Centres), developing programs and providing input to different divisions including education, training and health systems work, towards advancing the area of equity and social determinants

In addition to research and technical leadership, the position will call for providing administrative leadership that includes enhancing the reputation of the Centre; supporting strategic planning for the Centre; supporting the raising of funds for research and operations for the Centre; supporting the management of the Centre’s human resources; working with PHFI research and academic divisions and relevant committee/s.

Any other project related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification:
PhD in public health or social sciences, or equivalent research degree

Experience:
Around 20 years of experience in relevant field
