Restorative Practices Teacher Leader
 
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Youth Engagement
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Restorative Practices Teacher Leader is responsible for building the capacity of school and district leadership to reduce student disengagement through coaching, supporting, and ensuring accountability; to effectively implement a continuum of restorative practices and systems to build community, prevent harm and ensure student accountability.  The position involves the coordination of districtwide infrastructure and strategy to provide and monitor the effectiveness of the restorative practices continuum (universal, additional, and intensive supports) using data.  The position is within the Office of Youth, Family, and Community Engagement and reports to Reports to Supervisor of Youth Engagement
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prioritize Relationships, Collaboration and Communication
  • Strengthen comprehensive understanding of the NHPS Code of Conduct and implications for using the code of conduct as primarily a preventative instrument
  • Coordinate and provide professional development, training, and/or presentations to build the capacity of the school site staff in the implementation of restorative practices, both on the preventative and responsive sides of the continuum
  • Train and coach groups and individuals to facilitate the continuum of restorative practices including but not limited to affective statements, non-violent communication, active listening, restorative dialogue, circles (including community building, harm/conflict, re-entry, curriculum, issue/support, etc.)
  • Build positive relationships with school staff, administration, school support team, students, community partners, and families
  • Develop strategies that emphasize prevention (universal support) and whole school implementation of restorative practices.
  • Support the reduction of racial disparities in suspensions and expulsions through the use of evidence-based practices
  • Documenting, tracking and coordinating the expulsion process and rehabilitation process for students School Level
  • Planning, implementing and documenting individual and small-group coaching cycles with school staff, including modeling, observation, and feedback
  • Support schools in their efforts to use restorative practices as a means of suspension prevention

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal training in Restorative Practices Experience facilitating restorative practices and social-emotional learning for school stakeholders (i.e., students, families and staff)
  • Experience in building a positive school culture and implementing tiered supports for student success
  • Experience in coaching adults and leading them to achieve goals
  • Deep understanding of regulations regarding suspensions and expulsions
  • Strong facilitation and active listening skills
  • Strong personal commitment to social justice and healing work
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Google Suite
  • Dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to the mission and the communities we serve

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  10-Month work year. Local 933, The New Haven Federation of Teachers.
Salary contingent on degree and years of experience: $48,708 – $101,297
 
EVALUATION:  Evaluated annually in accordance with the district’s policy for the evaluation of Teachers and the New Haven Federation of Teachers contract.
