Music Teacher (PYP / MYP / IGCSE / DP Programme) – IB School Brief Job Profile A Music Teacher in an IB Continuum School is responsible for developing students’ musical understanding, creativity, performance skills, and appreciation of global music traditions across different age groups and IB programmes. Key Responsibilities – Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons aligned with IB philosophy and curriculum frameworks. – Teach vocal and instrumental music, rhythm, composition, music appreciation, and performance techniques. – Foster creativity, collaboration, inquiry, and self-expression through music. – Prepare students for performances, concerts, assemblies, exhibitions, recitals, and school events. – Integrate multicultural and contemporary music practices into classroom learning. – Guide students in composition, improvisation, listening, and reflective learning. – Assess and document student progress using IB assessment practices and feedback methods. – Support interdisciplinary learning and participation in co-curricular activities. – Maintain music resources, instruments, studio/classroom setup, and safety standards. – Encourage student participation in choirs, bands, orchestras, and competitions. Programme-wise Expectations PYP (Primary Years Programme) – Introduce foundational music concepts through play, movement, rhythm, singing, and creative exploration. – Encourage inquiry-based and transdisciplinary learning experiences. – Develop confidence and participation in group performances. MYP (Middle Years Programme) – Build musical literacy, performance techniques, composition, and critical listening skills. – Encourage experimentation, creativity, and interdisciplinary connections. – Support project-based and criterion-based assessment. IGCSE Music – Prepare students in performance, composition, and music theory as per Cambridge curriculum requirements. – Guide students for practical examinations and coursework submissions. DP Music – Facilitate advanced musical analysis, research, composition, solo/group performance, and reflective study. – Mentor students for internal assessments, portfolios, and IB DP Music requirements. Pre-requisites / Eligibility – Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Music / Performing Arts / Western or Indian Classical Music. – B.Ed. preferred for school teaching roles. – Certification or training in IB / Cambridge curriculum preferred. – Relevant experience in PYP, MYP, IGCSE, or DP Music teaching. – Strong vocal and/or instrumental proficiency. – Knowledge of music notation, composition tools, and digital music applications preferred. – Excellent classroom management, communication, and student engagement skills. – Ability to conduct performances, ensembles, choir, or instrumental groups. – Passion for arts education and holistic student development. Preferred Skills – Piano/Keyboard/Guitar accompaniment skills. – Exposure to choir training and stage performance management. – Familiarity with DAWs/music software such as GarageBand, MuseScore, Sibelius, etc. – Collaborative and culturally inclusive teaching approach. – Strong event coordination and presentation abilities.
