Role Description
Muktangan requires passionate teacher educators to sustain and grow its best practices on classroom pedagogy. What started as a community education model within a network of 7 municipal schools in Mumbai, is now attempting to transform (through partnerships) other mainstream schools across the country. The teacher education team currently compromises of more than 80 practitioners, many of them being members of the community who have grown with the organization. A brief note of the role:
I. PRE-SERVICE TEACHER EDUCATION: Muktangan runs two courses at its teacher education center. One on Early Childhood Development (3 year program) in partnership with TISS and the other as a Foundation Program for Primary Grade Teachers (one year program). The teacher educator role involves: working with a batch of trainees who are from the community.
a. Building the language proficiency of trainees, by facilitating sessions on English proficiency, conducting personalized tutorials (mentoring) and assessing the development of learners.
b. Review the Pedagogy of the language module and develop relevant curriculum content based on blended formats.
c. Observe assigned trainees during classroom internships and provide documented feedback.
II. IN SERVICE TEACHER EDUCATION: Involves continuous capacity building of teachers developed in the Muktangan methodology in our network of 7 municipal schools. The Faculty members are also expected to partner with the Outreach Department in capacity building programs for other institutions.
a. Designing and facilitating weekly Curriculum Understanding & Design forums (CUDs), which involve teachers in small groups discussing about subject related concepts and how to make the classroom experience of children more constructivist.
d. Conducting professional development sessions during vacations for teachers from various internal departments to improve their language competency and skills.
c. Designing and developing innovative learning materials (blended curriculums, games, workbooks, learning videos and sample activities) which can be used by classroom teachers to provide individualized learning experiences for his/her students.
d. Mentoring the assigned partner schools (mainly MCGM schools) by participating in classroom observations, tracking impacts and providing need based support in consultation with the Outreach Leadership.
III. ORGANIZATIONAL:
a. Continuously research emerging trends and participate in state and national forums of relevance to the Muktangan vision to promote inclusive education.
b. Advocate Muktangan in a responsible way. (Seminars, paper presentations, social media etc.)
Candidate’s Profile
Qualification:
D.El. Ed. / B.Ed/ MEE with minimum 3 years of classroom teaching experience Post Graduate M.Ed. / MA Education with minimum 1 year of classroom teaching experience at primary/middle school level.
Required Competencies:
· Outstanding communications and inter-personal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
· Proven ability to develop content (including use of technology) that is relevant to the learner
· Working knowledge of Marathi / Hindi or both will be given preference.
· Proven ability to collaborate with internal & external teams and lead projects.
· Must be flexible working with a professional, demanding work schedule and environment
