MIRI PIRI ACADEMY SCHOOL COUNSELLOR JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: School Counsellor
REPORTING TO: Director of Residential Life
COLLABORATES WITH: Residential Life staff, Medical department, Academic department, Advisors
PURPOSE OF JOB: We are looking for a compassionate school counsellor to work with our students, their families, and staff members. The school counsellor’s responsibilities include identifying students that need support, administering evaluations, making plans, providing counseling, and contributing to the development of student’s wellbeing. Successful school counselors are able to work with the MPA team to aid students in their personal development.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Listening to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social issues.
Providing individual and group counseling as appropriate.
Assisting students with the development of goals and action plans (for identified problems).
Developing programs to identify and address behavioral issues and learning difficulties.
Coordinating psychological tests and communicating reports.
Helping teachers, parents, and caregivers support the implementation of remedial plans for students.
Keeping and maintaining confidential records.
Working closely with academic, student life and medical departments.
Participating in continuing professional development.
Aiding in fostering staff wellbeing.
Assisting courses on social-emotional well-being for students.
Model MPA’s Code of Conduct to demonstrate values, attitudes and behaviors that we expect from the students and staff.
Contribute to MPA’s community and experience by participating in school activities as and when required.
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE: To succeed in this role, you will need to be a compassionate listener, possess excellent communication skills, enjoy collaborative teamwork and have a drive towards personal development. Multilingualism is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in a helping profession (counselling, psychology, social work, or related field)
Minimum of two years of experience working with adolescents
Good working knowledge of mental health and the treatment of affective and behavioral disorders.
High level of cultural sensitivity and ability to work in an international student body.
Ability to work with families who practice holistic health care.
Computer skills at a level that permits flow of communication.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working at an international school
Familiarity with Kundalini yoga and meditation
Familiarity with Zoom, Office, G Suite
