Expedition Teacher
Job Description
JOB TITLE: Expedition Teacher, Speciality in Humanities, Business, STEM or Art
REPORTING TO: Head of School
COLLABORATES WITH: Other Expedition Teachers, Spiritual Life Teachers, Support Teachers and Residential Staff
PURPOSE:
An Expedition Leader is responsible for designing and leading immersive expeditions that integrate academic content with placed-based learning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and adventure, with expertise in Humanities, STEM, Business or Art. They will collaborate with other teachers to create exciting projects, utilize place-based learning, and work with experts to enhance the learning experience. The Expedition Leader will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during expeditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and Planning:

Collaborate with other teachers to design exciting expeditions that explore topics from multiple perspectives.

Develop creative and challenging projects that engage students and encourage active learning.

Identify clear teaching and learning objectives, specifying how they will be taught and assessed.

Set tasks, that challenge students and ensure a high level of interest.

Set appropriate and demanding expectations for student learning, motivation, and presentation of work.

Set clear targets building on prior attainment.

Identify the needs of individuals and groups within the class.

Make effective use of assessment information when planning lessons.

Plan opportunities to contribute to students’ literacy and numeracy, and to their personal, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.

Utilize Support Teacher time as appropriate.
Expedition Leadership:

Lead expeditions, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

Provide clear instructions and guidance to students during expeditions.

Manage logistics, including transportation, accommodation, and meals, during expeditions.

Facilitate learning experiences that integrate academic content with place-based learning.

Work with experts and local guides to enhance the learning experience.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk management protocols during expeditions.

Evaluate the effectiveness of expeditions and make recommendations for improvement.
Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with other teachers to integrate the overall curriculum.

Communicate regularly with parents and school administration regarding expedition plans and student progress.

Work with school administration to ensure that expeditions align with educational goals and standards.

Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance expedition leadership skills and knowledge.
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, or specific subject matter (Master’s degree preferred).

Strong knowledge of Humanities, STEM, Business or Art curriculum.

Minimum five years of teaching experience.

Excellent planning and organizational skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Flexibility and creativity.
-
Experience working with diverse student populations (preferred).
