ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: English Language Arts Teacher
REPORTING TO: Academic Principal
COLLABORATES WITH: Members of other Academic departments, Spiritual Life departments, Residential Life staff, and Advisors
PURPOSE OF JOB:
- Develop, maintain, refine, and deliver an engaging Interdisciplinary curriculum
- Design units that include learning expeditions, projects, and other hands-on activities
- Create learning experiences that utilize the on campus learning spaces and promote interactions with the local community
- Provide students with opportunities to understand and express perspectives so they can contribute to meaningful discussions
- Monitor student progress through effective assessment techniques and communicate progress to students and parents
- Model MPA’s Code of Conduct to demonstrate values, attitudes and behaviors that we expect from the students and staff
- Contribute to MPA’s community and experience by fully participating in school activities as and when required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to plan, co-teach and assess an interdisciplinary curriculum
- Develop, maintain and continuously update existing unit plans and curriculum-related documents
- Embrace MPA’s philosophy of Learning with Purpose by focusing on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills
- Encourage and support students to take responsibility for their own learning to become self-directed learners
- Take into account the individual learning needs of students by differentiating work accordingly, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and offering out of class opportunities for support
- Maintain accurate records of student progress in line with the MPA’s Assessment Policy
- Supervise and support MPA learning programs like independent study options, online classes, and learning labs
- Contribute to school committees and staff meetings
- Participate in annual evaluation and professional growth, taking full advantage of professional development opportunities
- Some teachers may serve in a support capacity as an advisor and as a point of contact between home, dorms and school for your advisees
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in the relevant subject areas
- Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in the classroom
- Ability to work effectively in a team, preferably involving both national and international staff
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- International experience in a multicultural environment
- Experience in teaching an international curriculum
- Familiarity with Loom, Padlet, Zoom, Office, G Suite
- Candidates with arts, music and/or sports teaching experience will be given preference
