BOARDING SCHOOL DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Boarding School Director
REPORTING TO: Head of School
COLLABORATES WITH: Academic Principal, Admissions Director, Counselor, Property Manager, Head Nurse, Kitchen Manager
PURPOSE: The Boarding School Director is responsible for coordinating, overseeing and taking responsibility for the boarding school program and participants. They serve as a member of the school’s Administrative Team under the leadership of the Head of School to manage a successful experience for the boarding school students.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Manage boarding school program, policies, and staff.
- Ensure a safe and uplifting experience for all students.
- Ensure effective communication with parents
- Manage student discipline in coordination with Academic Principal, teachers, residential staff, counselor and HR Director.
- Work with Admissions Coordinator, Communications Director, Academic Principal, and Head of School to promote the boarding school program.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staffing:
- Work with HR Director to hire boarding school staff
- Work with HR Director and Academic Principal for successful induction of new staff and staff training
- Work with HR Director to identify Professional Development opportunities for boarding school staff.
- Create and manage boarding school staff schedules to ensure proper supervision of students.
- Delegate responsibilities and tasks to appropriate members of staff, giving feedback on effectiveness and holding staff members accountable for the discharge of their responsibilities
- Work with HR Director to conduct regular reviews of boarding school staff
Boarding School Program:
- Work with Head of School to develop boarding school program
- Plan and coordinate holidays and school breaks.
- Develop and maintain communication systems to ensure effective communication regarding students behaviour, needs and issues.
- Communicate with Property Manager, Kitchen Manager and Head Nurse regarding student and program needs.
- To manage the budgets for the dorms and social activities
- Develop systems ro reflecting on and improving the boarding school program.
Coordinate with other MPA Programs:
- Work with Academic Principal to create systems and policies for high student participation and behaviour.
- Work with Academic Principal and teachers to create Advisory program and curriculum.
- Work with the Academic Principal to ensure effective communication with parents.
- Serve on a committee for dealing with student infractions.
- Prepare and update, as needed, the Student Life Handbook and Staff Handbook and other boarding school policies.
Serve as a member of the Administrative Team:
- Communicate directly with and give leadership to all faculty and staff concerning policies, expectations, events and activities, both directly and through staff meetings
- Report to the Head of School matters of urgent concern, including major problems with students, so that he/she is adequately briefed in a timely manner to deal with parental or other inquiries
- Promote MPA at sangat events.
- Cooperate with Communications DIrector to promote the school.
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE:
- Level 1 KRI Kundalini Yoga Teacher Certification or equivalent.
- Knowledge, practice and commitment to the values of Sikh Dharma and the teachings of the Siri Singh Sahib.
- Leadership and management experience in a school setting
- Experience working in a boarding school
- A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution
- Cultural sensitivity to work with diverse cultures.
- Fluency in the English language.
- Multilingualism is a plus.
- Computer skills at a level that permits communication and organization.
