ART TEACHER
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Arts Teacher
REPORTING TO: Academic Principal
COLLABORATES WITH: Members of other Academic departments, Spiritual Life departments, dorm parents, and advisors
PURPOSE OF JOB:
- Teach art to beginning through advanced level students.
- Foster an exciting, dynamic, and creative learning environment wherein the teaching of skills, techniques and a passion for art are paramount
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of art techniques and pedagogy
- Use a variety of art resources in teaching including, drawing, painting, visual arts, graphic arts, and other 2D/3D media
- Besides teaching art, this position may also include supervising study time and supporting life skills classes
- Model MPA’s Code of Conduct to demonstrate values, attitudes and behaviors that we expect from the students and staff
- Contribute to MPA’s community and experience by fully participating in school activities as and when required
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Create an overall vision to enhance the program and expand upon its offerings to further grow and enrich the Creative and Performing Arts Department.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to plan, co-teach and assess an interdisciplinary curriculum
- Develop, maintain and continuously update existing unit plans and curriculum-related documents
- Embrace MPA’s philosophy of Learning with Purpose by focusing on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills
- Encourage and support students to take responsibility for their own learning to become self-directed learners
- Take into account the individual learning needs of students by differentiating work accordingly, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and offering out of class opportunities for support
- Maintain accurate records of student progress in line with the MPA’s Assessment Policy
- Supervise and support MPA learning programs like independent study options, online classes, and learning labs
- Contribute to school committees and staff meetings
- Participate in annual evaluation and professional growth, taking full advantage of professional development opportunities
- Some teachers may serve in a support capacity as an advisor and as a point of contact between home, dorms and school for your advisees
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
To succeed in this role, you will need to have a passion for art and for education, possess excellent communication skills, have a drive towards personal development and enjoy collaborative work. Multilingualism is a plus, as is an interest in sports, Kundalini yoga, gurbani kirtan or other extra-curricular activities.
- A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution in primary subject or a related field
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in the relevant subject areas
- Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in the classroom
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- International experience in a multicultural environment
- Familiarity with Loom, Padlet, Zoom, Office, G Suite
- Candidates with arts, music and/or sports teaching experience will be given preference
