POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Marmon Retail Solutions is looking to accelerate growth through innovation efforts that are rooted in a deep understanding of our retail customer’s evolving needs. Under the direction of the Director of Front-End Innovation, this role will leverage market research best practices to generate consumer and customer insights. This role will support the front-end development by helping to identify opportunities in the retail innovation landscape, building research plans to size and identify key opportunity areas, and translating those insights into an action plans for development.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage consumer research projects from project scoping to final presentation focusing on providing insights that will have a significant impact on business decisions.
  • Employ the best research method(s) including managing research agencies based on research questions, timeline and resourcing.
  • Vet and manage external vendors to implement consumer research and ensure projects are on time and within budget.
  • Translate consumer and customer insights into meaningful actions to inform product priorities and platforms. Produce ad hoc analysis around consumer behavior with existing tools.
  • Execute voice of customer (VOC) activities and tools in partnership with business units.
  • Communicate results and opportunities in clear, concise, and compelling ways to all levels of management. Deliver impact, as measured by changes to the product design and development roadmap.
  • Trends: Build consumer and customer driven focus in the organization by bringing customer insights and trends into portfolio innovation strategy work to build growth platforms. Understand consumer trends, customer motivation and incorporate them in research activities and ideation session as well as strategic roadmaps
  • Tools: Manage and maintain internal and external customer and consumer market research tools, including training others on use of tools and sharing of best practices.
  • Maintain competitive intelligence database
  • Travel up to 25% of the time.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree in marketing, or related field.
  • 8 or more years’ experience in R&D/marketing, with a background in innovation and consumer insight as well as strong business acumen
  • B2B marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience with retail through retailer, manufacturer, broker or similar affiliation. Preference is for experience with grocery, mass, and special retail channels.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and leading projects with third parties.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of market research methodologies and processes, and market research vendors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially in leveraging data and analytics for decision making. Must be detail and quality orientated.
  • Persuasive and clear oral and written communication skills. Ability to craft and communicate a concise, compelling story for the highest-level executives.
  • Ability to dive deep into both qualitative and quantitative data to understand customer motivations, problems and delighters in order to bring forward new insights that generate product innovations.
  • Self-starter who enjoys working in a dynamic work environment, independently and with groups, to achieve optimal performance
  • Able to prioritize responsibilities with the appropriate level of urgency, able to listen and can use this information to solve problems, anticipate issues and make correct decisions based on a variety of situations.
  • Strong team player, creative, & results driven. Capability to work with cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex technical issues in an easy-to-understand format.
