Company Description Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF) Sri Lanka is the first and largest structured Karate association in Sri Lanka, offering English-medium classes to over 600 students across 8 training locations. The organization provides individual sessions, school-based programs, and private group classes, delivering accessible training for a wide range of learners. SKIF Sri Lanka is the only affiliated Shotokan body with SKIF Japan, a globally recognized non-profit with affiliated groups in over 130 countries and more than two million members. Founded in Sri Lanka by the late Shihan Bonnie Roberts (8th DAN), regarded as the Father of Sri Lankan Karate, SKIF has deep roots in the national karate community. The current principal instructor, Sensei M. N. Jurangpathy (5th DAN), is a 15-time National Champion and former Vice President of the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation, reflecting the high technical and instructional standards of the organization. Role Description The Karate Instructor will deliver high-quality Shotokan Karate training to students of varying ages and skill levels in an on-site, full-time role based in Kolkata. Responsibilities include planning and conducting regular training sessions, teaching fundamental to advanced techniques, and ensuring safe, disciplined practice in line with SKIF standards. The instructor will prepare students for belt gradings, demonstrations, and competitions, while fostering respect, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Additional duties include maintaining student records, providing feedback on progress, coordinating with other instructors and administration, and assisting in workshops, seminars, and promotional events. The role also involves mentoring assistant instructors and supporting a positive, inclusive learning environment for all students. Qualifications
Strong technical proficiency in Karate and Shotokan Karate, with recognized ranking/certification from a reputable organization.
Proven experience in Martial Arts Instruction and Teaching, including managing classes with mixed ages and skill levels.
Solid background in Martial Arts, including understanding of training methodologies, conditioning, and injury prevention.
Excellent communication skills in English; ability to explain techniques clearly and provide constructive feedback.
Demonstrated ability to maintain discipline, motivate students, and promote an inclusive, respectful dojo culture.
Previous competitive experience at regional, national, or international level is highly desirable.
First-aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it within a defined timeframe.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends according to class schedules and events.
