General information: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has been established in
2008 by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 as amended from time
to time. IITH has been within top 10 engineering institutes in the country in both NIRF and QS
ranking (IITH being the first among IITs established in 2008 or later).
IITH is actively engaged in teaching, research and development and is looking for Professors of
Practice(PoP) for its various departments, to develop courses and curriculum to meet the industry
and societal needs and enable the Institute to work with industry experts on joint research projects
and consultancy services, which will be mutually beneficial. The Institute invites online applications
from Indian nationals, persons of Indian origin (PIOs) and/or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI),
possessing excellent academic background, industrial experience, commitment to quality teaching
and proven credentials for carrying out outstanding research and development, for various
departments as given below:

Contribution expected from PoP: PoP positions are reserved for exceptional practitioners with
diverse expertise in industry, business and public service with a mission of fostering excellence in
academics and technology development through teaching, mentoring and R&D activities. A PoP is
expected to play an active role in practice-based pedagogical modules/courses and new programs to
make our future graduates are industry ready.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and teach core/elective courses to bring practice-based credits to meet the evolving
requirements and expectations of the industry from time to time.
- Initiate R&D activities in line with the needs of the country and industry and be co-investigator
for joint projects with faculty of IITH.
- Setting up research collaborations and promoting industry-institute linkages.
- Leading and attracting consulting assignments, entrepreneurship-related activities.
- Helping in placement-related activities and other institutional initiatives with industry.
- Supporting CSR funding and helping in setting up of CoEs, Chair Professorships, etc.
Qualification and experience required: Candidates should have received BTech/MTech/MSc from
reputed institutions with good academic record throughout and have minimum 15 years of
professional experience. The candidates need not have a PhD, but they should have a track record of
exemplary professional practice while serving in leadership positions and have a well-established,
evidence-based reputation for superior accomplishments in their fields.

publications/patents, (b) research statement (max. 200 words) and (c) teaching statement (max. 200

Consolidated remuneration: (Based on the recommendation of the selection committee)
1. Full-time engagement: Honorarium of up to a max. of Rs.2 lakh per month for the total contract
period, based on experience.
2. Part-time engagement: Engagement based on an annual package up to a max. of Rs.6 lakhs (at
least one week of engagement per month).
Duration of appointment: The appointment is on a contract basis for a period of 1 year, extendable
up to 3 years, based on the performance.
Age: Preferably below 60 years
Accommodation: Accommodation on the campus is subject to availability.
Selection Process: The academic departments will scrutinize the applications at their end and
recommend the names of shortlisted candidates, through Dean (Faculty) to the Director for selection
through a Selection Committee duly approved by Chairman, BoG, IITH.
Requirements of the Departments:
Artificial Intelligence: The candidate should have a domain knowledge, obtained from deep
experience in fields related to the department of AI. Innovation expertise should be highlighted
through relevant publications and/or patents.
Biomedical Engineering: The candidates should have professional experience in Bioengineering or
related engineering fields and possess professional degrees relevant to BME department.
Biotechnology: The candidates should have a degree relevant to the BT department. And professional
experience in areas such as vaccine technology, cancer immunotherapy, antibody engineering,
manufacturing of biosimilar products based on recombinant DNA and monoclonal antibodies.
Chemical Engineering: Candidates should have professional experience in areas such
aspharmaceutical, materials, petroleum and petrochemicals, polymeric products, specialty chemicals,
industrial safety, hazard engineering, plant design.
Chemistry: The candidates should have experience in the areas of Pharmaceutical Chemistry,
Industrial Chemical Technology, Nuclear Chemistry, Lab-on-Chip Sensor Technology, and
Advanced Instrumentation.
Civil Engineering: Candidates should have demonstrated domain knowledgein fields related to the
department of Civil engineering such as Environmental engineering(Water, WastewaterEngg.,Air
pollution control engg., solid & Hazardous waste engg.),Geotechnical (Geotechnical engg., geo-
environmental engg., rock mechanics, rock engg.), structures (all relevant areas in structural
engineering, construction materials), construction management, transportation (transport & traffic
planning, transportation & traffic engg., pavement engg.),water resources engg,
Computer Science & Engineering: Candidates should have made significant contributions, which
are reflected through research publications, patents and technologies developed.
Design: Professionals who have demonstrated an acclaimed body of work and are active in their
practice in the relevant fields of Design can apply. Association with established brands/firms for
consultation or execution of work and those who have set up end-to-end design consulting firms can
also apply.
Electrical Engineering: Professional who have demonstrated expertise various areas that are
relevant to electrical engineering can apply.
Entrepreneurship and Management: Candidates should have managerial experience from diverse
sectors from a reputed organization. Entrepreneurs who have built successful ventures which are
currently well established will also be considered.
Liberal Arts: Candidates should have rich and diverse professional industrial experience in areas
such as Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Cultural studies, Development Studies, Economics, Fine
arts, Linguistics, Performing arts, Psychology, Sociology.
Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering: The candidates should have professional
experience in areas relevant to the department.
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering: The candidates should have at least one degree
(Bachelors, Masters) in Mechanical/Aerospace/Production. The candidate must have demonstrable
experience in product development, IP generation and Commercialization in areas such as robotics
&automation, smart manufacturing systems (industry 4.0 & digital twins), aerospace & aeronautical
systems, UAY design and development, AI & ML for mechanical and aerospace applications, new
generation transportation (road, rail & water), energy systems (generation, storage, and
transportation).
Physics: The candidates should have an outstanding track record of driving innovations. They should
have experience related to areas of physics and experience of mentoring students in industrial
projects.
