Roles and Responsibilities
The safety and well-being of learners undergoing training is paramount and top
priority at all times for us. The HOD is to ensure that adequate provisions are available, exercised, recorded, maintained and audited. The HOD will ensure all this and provide positive support to the Dy. CI to:
1. Maintain high level of medical emergency response preparedness at all times.
2. Ensure that medical emergency protocols are current and authorized by the supervising doctor to meet medical emergency response requirements.
3. Provide medical emergency response treatment as per Appendix A of OPITO MERP requirements.
4. Develop annual training matrix/plan for all staff involved in incident management and medical emergency response.
5. Ensure that team has requisite numbers of trained MER staff to meet the requirement of emergency response requirements.
6. Ensure sufficient and suitable equipment as per Section 4 – Physical Resources to meet MERP requirements.
7. Ensure that all medical equipment are maintained as per manufacturer’s
specifications and maintenance records.
8. Carry out the training environment risk assessment as per Appendix E and mitigation as per Section 5 of MERP requirement including “High Risk Activities” which include:
a) all in-water exercises
b) all on-water exercises
c) all practical firefighting product elements
10. Ensure MER Professionals are in possession of a valid international medical qualification which include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS/ACLS/ILS) and a Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS/ITLS/ATLS) course or equivalent have been completed.
11. Conduct MERP drills for regular effectiveness testing. Tier 1 and 2 MERP drills
minimum twice a year. Realistically Tier 2 MERP drills will in addition be extended annually to include third party emergency services.
12. Ensure Tier 3 and Tier 4 arrangements are in place.
13. Verify effectiveness of MER plan through using Medical Emergency Gap Analysis
Tool as per Appendix C & D.
14. Ensuring that Designated Medical Room is fully equipped and maintained in a state of readiness at all times as per MERP.
15. Should be able to conduct first aid lecture and practical for Clients as and when
required (Onsite training will be provided for the same)
16. Stay abreast of all developments and action plans in regards to requisite standards.
17. Be aware of and comply with his I her responsibilities and accountabilities as laid down in SSI’s Policies.
18. Duties are not limited to the above and additional duties can be delegated at the
discretion of the CEO or Chief instructor or any such person designated by Survival
Systems India (SSI).
Training and guidance will be offered.
Desired Candidate Profile
Veterans from the Indian Navy (Ex-Navy/Army) from Medical Branch will be preferred with Advance Nurse (AN) experience.
Male Nurse can also apply.
Registered nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Nurse Practitioners, Physician assistants or Physicians can also apply.
