About the Role
Artemisia College of Art and Design is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Pre-Production Artist to join its faculty team. We are looking for an artist with exceptional drawing and sketching abilities, strong expertise in character design, human anatomy, visual storytelling, and storyboarding.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong foundation in traditional art and be capable of mentoring students in developing professional-level artistic skills required for animation, films, comics, visual development, and related creative industries.
This position is best suited for artists who are passionate about teaching and have significant experience in character creation, figure drawing, storyboard development, and visual narrative design.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teach core Pre-Production Art subjects for Animation and Visual Storytelling
2. Train students in:
· Drawing Fundamentals & Sketching Techniques
· Human Anatomy & Figure Drawing
· Character Design & Character Development
· Gesture Drawing & Expression Studies
· Storyboarding & Visual Storytelling
· Cinematic Composition & Shot Design
· Perspective Drawing & Environment Sketching
· Visual Development & Concept Art
· Background Design & Layouts
3. Conduct intensive drawing sessions, sketching workshops, and portfolio reviews
4. Guide students in creating professional-quality character design sheets, storyboard portfolios, and visual development projects
5. Mentor students in understanding industry-standard pre-production workflows
6. Evaluate assignments, projects, and artistic growth through regular reviews and critiques
7. Participate in curriculum planning, academic activities, workshops, exhibitions, and industry interactions.
Required Skills
1. Exceptional freehand drawing and sketching skills.
2. Strong command over Human Anatomy, Figure Drawing, and Character Construction
3. Advanced understanding of Character Design principles, silhouettes, expressions, costumes, and personality development
4. Excellent Storyboarding and Visual Storytelling skills
5. Strong knowledge of Perspective, Composition, Lighting, and Visual Design
6. Ability to translate scripts and concepts into compelling visual narratives
7. Strong observational drawing skills and artistic fundamentals
8. Ability to mentor and inspire aspiring artists
9. Excellent communication and presentation skills
Software Knowledge (Preferred)
1. Adobe Photoshop
2. Clip Studio Paint
3. Adobe Animate
4. Procreate or equivalent digital sketching tools
Qualifications & Candidate Profile
· Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree or Diploma in Fine Arts, Animation, Visual Arts, Illustration, Design, or a related discipline
· Minimum 4–10 years of professional industry experience in Character Design, Storyboarding, Comics, Visual Development, Animation Pre-Production, or related creative fields
· Strong traditional drawing foundation with excellent sketching, figure drawing, and anatomy skills
· Demonstrated expertise in Character Design, Visual Storytelling, and Storyboarding
· Strong portfolio showcasing Character Design, Anatomy Studies, Figure Drawing, Storyboards, Concept Art, and Visual Development work
· Experience working in Animation Studios, Film Pre-Production, Comics, Illustration, or Visual Development departments will be preferred
· Passion for teaching, mentoring, and nurturing artistic talent
· Ability to bridge artistic fundamentals, industry practices, and academic learning
· Candidates with original character development projects, storytelling portfolios, or published creative work will be given preference.
