Full Job Description
A Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) in Biology is responsible for teaching biology at the post-secondary level, typically in high schools or colleges. Their primary role is to impart knowledge and develop the understanding of students in various biological concepts and principles. The job description for a PGT Biology include the following responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development: Designing and developing the biology curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials that align with educational standards and objectives.
2. Classroom Instruction: Delivering engaging and effective lessons to students, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques and resources such as lectures, discussions, multimedia presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on experiments.
3. Student Assessment: Evaluating and assessing students’ progress through assignments, tests, quizzes, and other assessments. Providing feedback to students and parents/guardians regarding their academic performance.
4. Individualized Instruction: Identifying students’ strengths and weaknesses and providing additional support and guidance as needed. Offering extra help to struggling students and challenging advanced students to further develop their knowledge and skills.
5. Laboratory Work: Supervising and conducting laboratory experiments, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and guiding students in practical applications of biology concepts.
6. Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and productive learning environment by enforcing discipline, managing classroom behavior, and addressing student concerns or conflicts.
7. Student Guidance: Providing academic and career guidance to students, including advising on course selection, college applications, and future career opportunities in the field of biology.
8. Professional Development: Engaging in continuous professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and staying updated with the latest advancements in the field of biology. Incorporating new teaching methodologies and technologies into instructional practices.
9. Collaboration: Collaborating with other teachers and staff members to promote interdisciplinary learning, coordinate school-wide events, and participate in professional learning communities.
10. Parent/Teacher Communication: Maintaining regular communication with parents/guardians regarding students’ progress, academic performance, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
