The Job

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Talking to the patients about their problems to try to resolve them (psychotherapy or talk therapy)
• Exploring the patients past experiences to learn how they affect their current state of mind and behavior (psychoanalysis)
• Helping patients change their thought processes and behavior (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT)
• Prescribing medication that can alter chemical imbalances affecting the patient’s state of mind and behavior

Ideal Candidate

Skills Required:

• Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria
• Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques
• Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• You are a strong team player who can manage multiple stakeholders
• Require a pleasant personality to work as counsellor for young students and help them understand the importance of navigating a career.
• Must be a good listener and be trained in matching candidate needs to a future career.
• Academic counsellors are responsible for helping shape young minds with care and affection and not with the use of force.
• You are a strong mentor and coach who can build high performing teams
