About The Department/PositionThe final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Under general supervision of the Associate Dean, this position is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment while providing quality customer service to library users.
The Library Services Specialist is responsible for paging and circulation of material assisting library users in finding materials and questions related to circulation policies and procedures resolving patron problems related to circulation functions providing basic support through bibliographic searches related to requests for interlibrary loan and storage requests overseeing student workers performing similar work within User Services and providing support to monitor security and maintenance in the public spaces within the University Library building during working hours. Employee may be required to work a variety of work schedules including evenings and/or weekends contingent on operational needs. Overview

Check library materials in and out using library systems
Update and maintain patron database as appropriate
Retrieve and process requests through various joint resource sharing systems
Maintain security of the Library by monitoring user access points
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent GED certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Two to three years of clerical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilitiesexperience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. General understanding of a library’s organization structure and key functional operations. Working knowledge of library terms and bibliographic formats and structures, including the ability to conduct a simple bibliographic search.
Knowledge of basic library research methodology and the ability to apply it. Ability to use the library system(s) and subsystem(s) module(s) to perform assigned duties. Effective communication skills, including the ability to work with the public and assist patrons with basic inquiries, directing them appropriately in locating and using library materials and informing them of applicable library policies and procedures.
