Role Purpose
To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission To support and guide teachers on delivery of the full range of courses, to lead and develop teachers, including provision of training, to coordinate and develop materials To contribute to management of teaching quality, of content of academic programmes, and of day-to-day operations
Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:
Support British Council’s global English strategy by:
Completing core teaching duties as per global standard and including all course types and more complex programmes. Effective pacing of work to suit changes in the external market Contributing to the development of teaching and assessment materials, act as duty officer and deputise for Senior Teachers as required, carry out administrative duties Supporting teacher development and performance in line with corporate systems and the Quality Plans in line with Teaching Excellence. Deliver training sessions in areas of expertise, and act as formal lesson observer. Line-managing teachers and assist with the recruitment of new teachers. Being able to retain talent and identify and acquire new talent and ensuring teaching meets learner needs and expectations. Ensuring Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is taken into account when planning and delivering lessons and engaging with customers and colleagues. Supporting the teaching centre’s activities and British Council plan Ensuring safeguarding and other guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
– Safeguarding
– Equality, diversity and inclusion
– Health and safety.
Role specific knowledge and experience:
Demonstrable skills and ability to:
Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles and modes of learning. Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout their learning, and actively promote learner autonomy and progress. Engage in staff meetings and otherwise contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team. Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values. Ensure British Council’s values are reflected in their work. Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices. Support marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service through dissemination of information and communications with students. Ensure guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, SEND, Health and Safety and other policies. Ensure customers are aware of British Council’s cultural relations role and help develop opportunity for students to gain some understanding of the UK and its values and to participate in inter-cultural interactions either in class or as out of class activity
