Social Counselor- Job Description

The Social Counsellor undertakes counselling in domestic violence cases assigned to their centre. Through individual, spouse and family counselling, they make efforts to bring in reconciliation in strained marital cases. The Counsellor also aids the complainant in accessing services such as short stay homes, legal counsellor, psychiatric support etc., through other agencies and departments.

The Social Counsellor undertakes both offline and over-the-phone counselling on a need basis. The entire counselling workflow of Bharosa Society is rendered through a dedicated online platform. Counsellors should be proficient in use of computers.

Criteria Requirement

Qualification:

Should be a Postgraduate in social work/social sciences/counseling or allied.

Experience:

3+ years or relevant experience in rendering Counselling services in “Relationship & Marriage”, or “Rehabilitation” or “Mental Health” etc.

Skills:

To become a counsellor, you must:

• Active Listening
• Having the fundamental skills like empathy and genuineness
• Ready to maintain the ethical code of conduct within the regulations of counselling relationships
• Knowledge of fundamental counselling techniques such as observation, active listening, questioning, reflecting feelings and thoughts, and utilizing quiet when required.
• Conflict Management Skills

In addition to the above, the following is also required:

• Clear Documentation Skills
• Computer Knowledge to access online Counselling platform and leave clear notes.
• Coordination Skills so that various required services can be rendered by them to the complainant.

Languages: Should be fluent in Telugu & Hindi.

Location: The position will be working from the CDEWs across Tri-Commissionerate area of greater Hyderabad.

Compensation– The remuneration budget is INR 30 thousand per month, plus insurance cover. Where the Counsellor is also handling responsibilities of a Centre Admin, a variable pay if INR 2K will be provided over and above the consolidated amount.

The tenure of the contract: is co-terminus with project funding. The initial contract will be for 1 years. Annual performance appraisals will determine continuity of service, year on year.
