Job title: Entrepreneur in Residence
Faculty/Directorate: Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation
Part-time: 8 hours per week

Overall purpose of the role

• Under the guidance of The Innovation Centre Manager, mentor and advise early-stage students and graduate start-ups as required, supporting them in the development of their proposed business ideas.
• Work with appropriate enterprise representatives across Professional Services and Academia to support the continuous development and ambitions of the University’s enterprise provision to students, graduates, and staff.

• Entrepreneurial, with real-world start-up experience
• A passion for supporting and encouraging students with their new business ideas.
• Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
• Interest in enterprise education

Main duties and responsibilities

• Contribute to the encouragement and support of an enterprising mindset amongst students, graduates, and staff.
• Help our enterprise lecturers to refine their programs and ensure they continue to be up to date and engaging.
• Be available for pre-agreed “office hours” to answer questions from students one on one.
• Contribute to discussions undertaken by our Enterprise Advisory Panel.
• Support students and graduates in their applications for regional, national and international enterprise competitions.
• Enhance the experience of our students by supporting the University’s extracurricular enterprise activities to include the BMU start-up society.
• Provide constructive feedback through activities such as Industry pitches within enterprise modules and extracurricular activities such as the Pitch2Win awards.
• Manage your own schedule of 8-12 hours/week.
• Dedicate 1 hour per month to coach an Innovation Centre business resident.
• Contribute content for BMU enterprise website (1 x blog post per quarter?).
• Meet regularly with The Innovation Centre Manager to discuss and review Entrepreneurs in Residence contribution to enterprise activities.
