The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) seeks applicants for an Environmental Studies lecturer in the Department of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) beginning in the fall of the 2023-2024 academic year. The department is seeking a teacher who can contribute to high-quality undergraduate education. The selected candidate would be expected to teach 8 courses per year and to participate in department and college meetings, events, select committees, and potential administrative service activities.
We are seeking an individual who has the ability and interest to contribute to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development and scholarship; integrity and ethics; respect, diversity and pluralism; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration. Select to view links to RIT’s core values, honor code, and statement of diversity.
The STS Department is an interdisciplinary group of scholars who study how science and technology shape and are shaped by their social, cultural, political, and environmental contexts. In our teaching, we seek to leverage the power of science, technology, and the liberal arts to enable students to work in a wide variety of careers needed to address current and emerging environmental crises and the pervasive influences of science and technology on modern society. Because environmental problems embody equity and social justice issues, solving them requires expertise and insights from the humanities and social sciences, as well as technical and scientific knowledge from the STEM disciplines. Accordingly, we seek a lecturer with expertise in environmental humanities or social sciences, and a strong interest in environmental justice issues.
Through our courses and advising, we support RITs general education program and several interdisciplinary degree programs across the Institute, including the Environmental Science program. More information about our program can be found at https://www.rit.edu/liberalarts/department-science-technology-and-society.
