The organisation is currently running 11 Solar Digital Community Schools. The need of these night schools was identified to give informal and futuristic primary level education to the children of age between 6 to 14 years (majorly girls). Solar Digital Community schools are non-formal schools running across the country during evenings or nights for the marginalised and poor children who are unable to access formal and quality education during day-time because of various social, geographical, or economic limitations. These schools are primarily situated in locations which are off-grid or with intermittent electricity supply and use digital tools and technologies to deliver education effectively.
Since the model’s inception in the mid 1970s, it has educated more than 75,000 children – 65% girls. More than 40% have integrated back into State secondary schools. More than 14,000 grassroots teachers, after participating in our comprehensive teachers-training program, have been hired into the State School system.
As a Project manager, you will be required to manage the end-to-end implementation of Digital Community Schools (DCS) and pilot the Parents in Education (PiE) model in 11 selected rural communities identified by BCI.
The Parents in Education model was identified as a severe need considering the situation created by the pandemic to engage parents of the Digital Community Schools community to enhance the learning outcomes.
