Position: Frontline Technology Associate (FTA)
The Context
The Technology group of Azim Premji Foundation has embarked on several digital initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of various process areas touching different functional units of the Foundation including Field, University, Healthcare and Philanthropy. We have been deploying number of mobile apps and web apps for our members and partners to use. Here are few examples of the applications that have been launched recently.
Teacher Development Tracking Application
This is an application to help the field team to manage and track school teacher development. Our field members can record observations on a teacher’s teaching practices and student’s learning outcome using a mobile app. The application then assimilates the observations and provides insights on coverage and effects. This can be used to further plan personalized development program. This is being used by 1000+ field members covering 70,000 primary school teachers.
VaxIT
VaxIT is a unique mobile app that tracks vaccine status of over 65 million residents in about 90,000 villages in India. This app was used by 25,000+ community health workers across 22 states, 225 districts and 3300 PHCs.
The app has been designed to work even in regions of low connectivity and supports 4 regional languages.
Sustainable Employment – Open Data Portal
“India Working in Numbers”, a publicly available interactive data dashboard on key employment indicators in India. This is an open data portal on employment, wages, and quality of work in India. The target audience consists of researchers, policymakers, journalists, activists, and students.
Job Description
The primary charter of an FTA is to enable adoption of technology applications by diverse set of users in the Foundation and partner organizations – Field members, District/State leaders, community volunteers, doctors, nurses, lab technicians, school teachers/principals, university faculty and staff etc.
An FTA is expected to:
- Understand the process and operations of the assigned domain (e.g teacher development, community healthcare, university admissions)
- Understand working of the assigned technology applications
- Prepare user guides/videos
- Setup the application and data
- Train the users
- Support the users
- Track adoption
- Analyze the data captured in the application and prepare reports and graphs.
Qualification
Educational qualification and/or prior exposure in the domains of education, healthcare or any development sector will be preferred.
To be successful in this role one needs to be comfortable in
- Working with set of users that may have less prior exposure to technology (e.g community volunteers, health workers, …)
- Using technology tools – mobile apps, web apps, reporting tools, Microsoft/Google productivity tools, multimedia tools etc.
- Travelling and working in remote field locations
- Communicating effectively in one or more Indian languages
This position will be based in Bangalore, India.

This role will provide tremendous opportunity to learn new domains and technologies and be part of some unique digital transformation initiatives in the social sector. FTA’s will get first-hand experience in designing, developing, and deploying software and will get access to some of the leading low-code/no-code software development platform like Salesforce and analytics platform like Tableau and Power BI.
FTAs can progressively grow into the roles of Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Project Lead and Program manager.
Selection Process:
The initial screening will be based on academic qualifications and performance and then final selection through interviews.
