Position: A JRF position for a project entitled ‘Whole genome sequencing and
comparative genomics to understand the evolution, genomic diversity and immunity of bats
from the Indian subcontinent’ Funded by SERB, DST, Government of India (GOI) is open at
Department of Biological Sciences, Ashoka University to conduct research activities in the field
of Comparative Genomics in bats.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Balaji Chattopadhyay, Assistant Professor, Trivedi School of
Biosciences, Department of Biology, Ashoka University.
Requirements:
Post-graduate degree in a related field.
Preference will be given to candidates who have cleared National Eligibility Tests- CSIR-UGC
NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or National level examinations
conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and Institutions. However
other candidates are also encouraged to apply.
The candidate should be knowledgeable in bioinformatics with experience in the handling and
analyses of Whole Genome Sequencing, RNAseq and related genomic datasets including
sequence analyses, population genomic and phylogenomic analyses. An experience with wet lab
methods towards NGS data collection, WGS (DNA and RNA extraction, NGS library
preparations etc) and field experience with bats (capture, handling and tissue sampling of bats)
is a plus but not an essential requirement for the position. The candidate is also expected to have
some scripting experience (Unix, Python or R).
Duration: Initial appointment will be for one year, which can be extended upto three years upon
satisfactory performance.
