Job Position: Remedial Teacher

Location: Bandra, Mumbai

About Aseema: Aseema is a Mumbai-based NGO that is committed to equipping children from marginalised communities with high quality, value-based education, enabling the development of their limitless potential. We run three municipal schools in Mumbai in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and one school for tribal children in Igatpuri.
Aseema reaches out to 4,400 children living in vulnerable circumstances in urban slums and tribal communities.

Job Responsibilities:

• To read, imbibe and practice Aseema’s approach to education
• To identify each student’s style and ability of learning and accordingly form groups/grade levels based on their coping strategy and understanding.
• To conduct an informal assessment to facilitate the identification process
• To work with class teachers and subject teachers to simplify class content so as to aid the child’s learning and retention of what is being taught in class.
• To participate in training sessions and teach as per the lesson plans and worksheets provided in the modules
• To work with children in groups of 5-10 so as to form a bond and eagerness for learning.
• To conduct monthly assessment to determine the progress of the child.
• To prepare innovative lesson plans and teaching aids on time
• To teach in an experiential manner and make learning relevant and meaningful for the children
• To encourage questioning and thinking as an integral part of learning
• To give children ample opportunity to assimilate learning
• To monitor the progress of the children by correcting books and assignments regularly

Required skills and competencies:

• Graduate with Certification in Remedial Education / Special Education will be preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in English remedial teaching.
• Good communication skills – written and verbal
• Well versed with Computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
