Job Summary The Compensatory Education Reading Teacher is responsible for implementing the schools instructional program for Grades K through 8 Principal Accountabilities Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning while teaching assigned subject or class according to adopted curricula and standards Establishes a daily lesson plan following curriculum guideline and adopted standards prepares necessary materials implements plan Maintains student discipline and fosters positive relationships with students parents and colleagues Utilizes motivational tools and information technology to stimulate students Maintains communication concerning individual progress with parents and school administration Contributes to curriculum development and revision Corrects assignments and evaluates student progress in timely fashion Performs other related duties as assigned Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum Model and coach instructional methods in a variety of settings whole group and small group and provide follow-up support Must participate in professional development activities as necessary to maintain licensure Instruction in the classroom will be commensurate with the schools stated philosophy objectives and purposes Cognizant of all rules and regulations in school handbooks Conduct classroom visitations and provides feedback to teachers and administrators on the schools literacy program Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Requirements Zero 0 to two 2 years experience teaching in an accredited school system Bachelor s degree from an accredited institution with 24 SH credits in reading language arts instruction Current teacher certification in one of the 50 United States for grade level or subject area Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Human relation skills of the highest order are required to meet the needs of a diverse population Requires initiative perception and a broad knowledge of human behavior to understand the learning style of the individual students Requires solid pedagogy in educational planning instructional delivery classroom management and assessment Requires knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instruction thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education ability to infuse technology into curriculum ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues students parents and community ability to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the student s Position requires moderate lifting and bending Ability to monitor students ages 5-12 on the playground in hot and humid weather Preferred Qualifications Experience of three 3 years teaching in an accredited school system preferred Knowledge in providing math support is a positive addition to the reading skill set
