About the School: The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Ahmedabad University, is engaged in teaching and research in the fields of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
Brief Description of the Project: The research project is aimed to design and develop Divya-wear (DW) for visually impaired people. The DW would be a haptic wearable vest for cueing the wearer about the possible indications depending on the prevailing environment. The DW would provide guidance in unexplored areas for the visually impaired wearer. The project is in collaboration with the Blind People’s Association (BPA), Ahmedabad. After the assembly of working prototypes, there will be actual testing by normal and visually impaired wearers. The design would be improved by constructive feedback received from BPA. The research assistant is required to provide full support in various phases of the project.
Responsibilities:
The research assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, including, but not limited to
Conducting literature reviews
Preparing experimental setup, collecting and analyzing the data
Providing ready access to all experimental data
Manage and respond to project-related emails
Supervise students working on the research project
Attend project meetings, seminars and other meetings as necessary
Summarise project results
Prepare progress reports
Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations.
Other duties, responsibilities, quarterly work requirements, and schedules must be discussed with the faculty researcher. The research assistant will have to abide by all rules and regulations of Ahmedabad University.
Duration of appointment: 01 Year [August 2022 to August 2023]
Key Skills:
Computing languages/libraries/toolkits/softwares: Python, OpenCV, Intel OpenVino (not mandatory), MATLAB/ Simulink, Solidworks/AutoCAD/Design software
Areas of interest/expertise: Computer vision, Computer programming, 3D/infrared/stereo vision camera, Machine learning (basics), digital image/video processing (advanced)
Familiarity with: 1) wearable/haptic technology, 2) electronic/electrical components, 3) 3-D printing machine/s
Qualifications:
Minimum: BE/BTech with valid GATE Score in CSE/mechatronics/instrumentation
Desirable: MTech/ME in the above disciplines with a minimum of 60 % overall academic
