Position Title: Director of Communications

Function: Communications

Reporting to: Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad University

Role Summary:
Coordinate all internal and external communication elements that achieve awareness and positive mind-set about Ahmedabad University in India and the world and provide thinking and execution of the University Brand. This would involve comprehensively synergising the strategic, tactical and creative processes to execute media events, media publications, televised events, newsletters, annual reports, website stories, etc. The above will be delivered by collaboratively working with peer group and external vendors within and outside the University on a variety of initiatives and day-to-day operations developing and executing in a way that is consistent with Ahmedabad University’s ethos and strategy. Also will be responsible for marketing activities at the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate the annual communications plan across the organization in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor, deciding who, where, when and how to disseminate information/communication
  • Manage various properties that the University has created vis-a-vis Communication
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collaterals including, but not limited to, website, newsletters, brochures, internal and external communication communications, industry relations, media relations, special events, public affairs, strategic communications, corporate communications, executive positioning, and media outreach.
  • Manage the development, implementation & integration of the Ahmedabad University brand ensuring all
  • communication material & tools contribute to significantly improving the visibility and reach of the University and promote its brand
  • Establish and maintain strategic networks that consolidates brand reputation.
  • Lead the generation of online content that engages all the stakeholders leading to measurable actions
  • Significantly build, maintain & manage business relation with all forms of media both local & at national level
  • Coordinate and maintain healthy relations with journalists and public opinion leaders
  • Promote information sharing and the gathering of knowledge of the education sector
  • Achieve and deliver results in a timely way while managing resources (people, partners and budgets)
  • Develop a strategic and integrated communication function for the University with supporting policies and
  • frameworks
  • Foster and maintain strong professional working relationships with key stakeholders to understand and meet their communication requirements and manage their expectations
  • Communicate the proposition of a liberal arts education within a research university
  • Balance innovation & creativity whilst ensuring consistency & maximising communication effectiveness
  • Manage vendors related to communications
  • Engage with new forms of design communication for the university – university communication should be recognised for its unusual design and aesthetics
  • Lead a team of Communication professionals, supporting and guiding them to:
    • Create a strong relationship between internal and external stakeholders
    • Build a strong digital presence
    • Identify and create potentially news worthy stories and visual story telling platforms
    • Evaluate and develop the content ethically, aesthetically and strategically
    • Identify and coordinate with the right platforms and media to publish/disseminate the stories
    • Finalizing and coordinating Press Releases and Press Briefing

Qualifications:

  • An accomplished professional having min 15 years of communications experience and having led teams that have delivered on some or all of the above activities. MBA/Masters in Media, Marketing & Communications or related field from a reputed institution.
  • Extensive experience in providing strategic and operational advice/guidance to executives on internal and external communication matters
  • Strong digital vision and capabilities
