The Teaching Assistant provides instruction and support to socially marginalised and/or economically disadvantaged young women (ages 18- 25) whose schooling has been interrupted. They work with an interdisciplinary team to guide participants in reaching their academic, personal, and vocational goals.
Work with the Team to visualize and draft long term outcomes and plans, and implement them on a monthly, weekly, daily basis
Work with an interdisciplinary team (Social Worker, Program Managers, Vocational managers), and participants to create and follow a detailed plan for each participant
Teach elementary English, Hindi and Math to a group of diversely abled students
Foster confidence, critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in students
Coach students one-to-one on areas of development as and when required
Use and adapt effective methods for classroom management and group facilitation
Provide attention and adaptation to meet learning needs of adult students with varied interests, learning styles, and abilities
Regularly review and revise educational plans with participants to keep them on track
Help students prepare for board/university exams
Use, and support students in using, online technology programs to enhance learning, practice and assess skill
Proactively and holistically identify participant knowledge gaps, to understand training needs and using them to create contextual lessons
Implement and modify teaching techniques according to needs of the students
Create detailed lesson plans for conducting minimum 10 lessons a week
Create and conduct standardized assessments at regular intervals to measure student progress and give feedback
Keep academic and behavior records of student progress through trackers in organized manners
Consistently seek out feedback and implement it to grow in skills needed for the work
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Minimum 2 years relevant work experience, either in the non-profit sector or in teaching. Experience of working with young women from marginalized backgrounds would be an advantage
Ability to draw up lesson plans and teach basic concepts of English / Hindi / Math, Social Science, and computers is essential.
