Applications are invited for the position of Director for the Centre for Heritage Management, Ahmedabad University. The position is a faculty appointment at Associate Professor / Professor level as appropriate at any of the three schools of Ahmedabad University, with the responsibility of the director of the Centre for Heritage Management.

We are interested in understanding heritage in critical and systematic way, and developing interdisciplinary and collaborative heritage management approaches for diverse sectors of heritage such as art, crafts, cultural practices, cultural landscapes, historic built environments, indigenous knowledge systems, museums and collections, intangible heritage, and world heritage – to name a few aspects. The Centre for Heritage Management at the Ahmedabad University has been proactively engaged in developing this growing area of inquiry and a creative field of practice. The Centre offers a two years Master’s degree programme in Heritage Management, publishes a biennial Journal of Heritage Management, and organizes an annual international conference series on Heritage Management Education and Practice, along with several other initiatives like Heritage Learning Lab and other short term programmes. The Centre works closely with the city of Ahmedabad and several other cities around the country.

Who should apply?

Candidates with a PhD in Archaeology, Architecture, Cultural Studies, Cultural Geography, Cultural Economics, Heritage Studies or Heritage Management, History, Laws, Museum Studies, Social Work, Sociology and Urban Planning, or any other relevant disciplines, as well as a minimum of six years of academic or professional experience, may apply.

Candidates need to have a track record of academic and/or professional engagement with heritage management related issues. Having practical/field experience on managing heritage projects including but not limited to conservation projects, crafts related works, consulting experience with UNESCO or national and international agencies would be a plus.
