STRUCTURED ENGLISH IMMERSION TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

Miri Piri Academy (MPA) is looking for talented, adventurous and dedicated individuals for our residential life and academic staff teams in Amritsar, India.

Our school consists of students from 19 countries, and 60% speak english as a second language. Our Structured English Immersion Teacher will have the unique position of teaching our diverse student population in grades 9-12th. Classes average 8 students, and we employ interactive teachings methodologies such as Interdisciplinary Studies and Experiential Learning, in the classroom and in expeditions.

**** This position requires residence in India for 9 months****

JOB TITLE: Structured English Immersion Teacher

REPORTING TO: Academic Principal

COLLABORATES WITH: Members of other Academic departments, Spiritual Life departments, Residential Life staff, and Advisors

JOB GOALS:

• Develop, maintain, refine, and deliver an engaging Interdisciplinary curriculum
• Design units that include learning expeditions, projects, and other hands-on activities
• Create learning experiences that utilize the on campus learning spaces and promote interactions with the local community
• Provide students with opportunities to understand and express perspectives so they can contribute to meaningful discussions
• Monitor student progress through effective assessment techniques and communicate progress to students and parents
• Model MPA’s Code of Conduct to demonstrate values, attitudes and behaviors that we expect from the students and staff
• Become an active member of our school community by participating in school activities

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

• Work collaboratively with other teachers to plan, co-teach and assess an interdisciplinary curriculum
• Develop, maintain and continuously update existing unit plans and curriculum-related documents
• Embrace MPA’s philosophy of

by focusing on creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills * Encourage and support students to take responsibility for their own learning to become self-directed learners

• Take into account the individual learning needs of students by differentiating work accordingly, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and offering out of class opportunities for support
• Maintain accurate records of student progress in line with the MPA’s Assessment Policy
• Supervise and support MPA learning programs like independent study options, online classes, and learning labs
• Contribute to school committees and staff meetings
• Participate in annual evaluation and professional growth, taking full advantage of professional development opportunities
• Some teachers may serve in a support capacity as an advisor and as a point of contact between home, dorms and school for your advisees

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE:

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a passion for education, possess excellent communication skills, have a drive towards personal development and enjoy collaborative work. Multilingualism is a plus, as is an interest in sports, Kundalini yoga, gurbani kirtan or other extra-curricular activities.

• A Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited institution
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience in the relevant subject areas
• Computer skills at a level that permits the creative and effective use of technology in the classroom

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in teaching an international curriculum
• Familiarity with Loom, Padlet, Zoom, Office, G Suite
