Job description This apprenticeship program provides work experience in the mining industry at our Kearl Operations open to 3rd year heavy equipment apprentice program students or individuals holding a red seal automotive technician certification and have successfully challenged the 1st year heavy equipment technician technical exam
Initially you will train as a member of our maintenance staff to gain practical hands-on experience with maintenance and safety procedures
On-the-job experience will be supplemented with additional related formal training
You will be required to work on your own without direct supervision following the initial training period
Frequent driving on gravel roads is a key component of this position
Responsibilities While working under the supervision of an experienced mentor you will perform various duties such as (but not limited to) Abiding by all safety rules and standards, reporting hazards and holding responsibility for the safe operation of assigned facilities Participating in safety programs and attending training sessions; completing self-development courses Executing all work within government regulations and company standards Executing specific activities defined within the preventative maintenance program to maintain the integrity of assigned equipment and machinery Repairing machinery malfunctions identified through the work order system and performing associated plant/field housekeeping Demonstrating ability and initiative to improve or modify existing systems or procedures Utilizing shop tools and equipment and completing predictive maintenance tasks such as vibration monitoring, temperature monitoring etc Assisting in root cause and cost benefit analysis to reduce cost and eliminate recurring problems Working together with operations and contract personnel as necessary Attending and participating in the maintenance network as required Qualifications Academic Currently enrolled in a 3rd year heavy equipment apprentice program or hold a red seal automotive technician certification and have successfully challenged the 1st year heavy equipment technician technical exam Grade 12 high school diploma or GED equivalent is a minimum requirement Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record are required for this position Previous completion of a pre-apprenticeship program from a recognized technical institution or RAP for high school students is considered an asset Other Able to work in a team environment Able to work shift work the work schedule is a 14 days on/14 days off rotation Able to communicate effectively with team members If you are a candidate who wishes to self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations or Mtis) for eligibility in our preferential Indigenous recruitment program, you must attach a proof of membership letter from your association/settlement/band office to your application
