Job Description: Teacher

Principal Tasks:

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in accordance to the PGI stated curriculum manuals and guidelines in the Pre-Primary/ Primary/Middle/Secondary or Senior Secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfil their academic potential

Job Responsibilities:

A. Curriculum Transaction:

· Responsible for delivering lessons in accordance with the designed programme, corporate strategy and guidelines and utilize the worksheets, materials, teaching aids and methods that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in a meaningful learning experience

· Effectively prepare for each lesson plan i.e. read plans, attend Curriculum related workshops and seek clarification, if necessary

· Aware of the objectives in the Lesson Plan and establish, communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

· Logical and clear in the presentation of the introduction of Lesson Plan

· Teach as per instructions given in the Lesson Plan and make use of various teaching aids, resources, activities, assignments listed in the Lesson Plan

· Integrate information from other areas within and outside the Lesson Plan and give relevant examples, metaphors and analogies. Ability to innovate on the scripted lesson plans and keep the COD, HOI and the curriculum department informed of the same through the curriculum feedback meetings

· Use creativity, humour and imagination to establish connections with the students’ previous learning

· Use effective voice intonation to communicate and instruct using correct and appropriate language grammar

· Maintain eye contact, move around the class with ease and interact with the students

· In the case where the common curriculum is not binding, the teacher must ensure to plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning

· Develop academic year Roadmap, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures

· Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning that is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

· Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction

· Manage student behaviour in the classroom by following the PGI Policy on classroom management principles

· Ensure power teaching techniques are adhered to

· Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school

· Closely monitor students under concern and regular defaulters

· Identify student needs and work together with the Coordinator and Special Educator in assessing and addressing the emotional, behavioural, social and intellectual problems

· Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies

· Tailor make instructional strategies to suit the type of learner (Gifted, Average, Slow)

· Update the COD about any significant episode or incident related to the classroom. (Student illness, long absenteeism without intimation, poor performance in academics, bring remedial requirement to notice)

· Perform daily duties filling up of all records, check and sign student diary and record confiscated items

· Ensure that the Homework details / remarks are entered correctly by the students and duly acknowledged by the parents

· Provide appropriate feedback on student work to the COD and parents during PTM.

· Ensure the portfolios of students are maintained as per PGS standards

· Ensure the newsletters and circulars are sent to students on time

· Ensure the Home Room period is conducted as per the policy

· Ensure that the bulletin boards are colourful, vibrant and inviting and are updated regularly

· Ensure to prepare the list of student names who deserve the awards and certificates as per the PGI policy

· Ensure to complete corrections within 7 days of submission of work by students

· Ensure judicious use of media (teaching aids, smart board, etc.)

· Ensure all fairness in the conduct of examinations (Internal & External)

· Ensure that the records are maintained as per the PGI standards

· Prepare required anecdotal reports on students and relevant activities

· Participate in department, committee, staff and parent meetings

· Communicate necessary information regularly to students, subject teachers and parents regarding student progress and student needs

· Assign and grade appropriately class work, homework, practical records, worksheets, textbooks, workbooks, tests and assignments

· Encourage parent and community involvement, promptly return phone calls of the parents if any.

· Participate and compulsorily attend professional training/ orientation workshops planned from time to time

· Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed

· Perform duties as assigned from time to time

B. Assessments & Examinations:

· Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development

· Prepare Blue Print, Question Papers, Answer Keys for the subject under tutelage bearing the components of Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy in mind.

· These documents are to be submitted well in time and in accordance with the Submission Schedule cited by the Examination Department.

· Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required per the school regulations and PGI policy guidelines

· Ensures the marks are recorded and uploaded within 3 days of conduct of examination or assessment

· Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.

· As a class teacher, to arrange the classrooms as per the seating plan released by the exam department.

· Ensure that the students are seated as per the seating plan rolled out by the examinations department.

· Ensures no event of malpractice in the conduct of examinations

· Ensures the bundles are corrected within 2 days of the conduct of examinations and submitted to the exam department.

· Maintain mark registers for all the classes and subjects handled.

C. Student Administration & Discipline:

The teacher should ensure that the student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for the age group, subject area, and/or programme clarification with the active engagement in the learning process. The focus of the Teacher should be the following:

· Adopts a polite but firm tone in addressing difficult students

· Do not resort to corporal punishments but follow the consequences as stated in the discipline policy of PGI

· Ensure student movement during arrival, break time & dispersal is smooth and orderly

· Ensure that the assemblies are conducted as per the standards with good time management

· Ensure that classrooms and surroundings are neat and tidy and students also inculcate the habit of maintaining a clean surrounding and clutter free environment

· Conserve the environment by reducing use of paper, saving electricity and water and inculcates the same in her children

· Model good behavior and ensure that the students imbibe the same

· Gear the teaching to the needs of all students with a concern for their interests, handicaps, special talents, individual styles and pace of learning

· Promote maximum student participation and focus. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

· Maintain attendance register as per the PGI norms. Regular updating of attendance in EDUNEXT portal.

· Mentor students whenever necessary.

D*. Professional Development: *

· Undergo regular observations and participate in Curriculum workshops as part of continuing professional development

· Attend all staff meetings and participate in the recommended training programmes, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth

· Cooperate with QAC cell and external observers during audit and observation

E. School Events & CCA:

· Ensure the classrooms are prepared as per the PGI Policy for the Parent teacher meeting

· Ability to handle parents well during PTM’s and events, etc. Is warm and hospitable in receiving parents

· Perform duties assigned diligently and is an active member of the committee assigned to

· Ability to participate and contribute in all the Annual School events and perform as per expectation

· Ensure that the club activities are monitored and give valuable feedback to the concerned authorities on the resource person and the club
