The Molecular Physiology Lab, Division of Nutrition, St John’s Research Institute, invites applications for the postdoctoral research program in Molecular Metabolism and Nutrition. The research projects will be mentored and guided by Dr Arpita Mukhopadhyay, DBT/ Wellcome Trust India Alliance Intermediate Fellow and Associate Professor, Molecular Physiology Lab, Division of Nutrition, St. John’s Research Institute, Bangalore.

Current focus areas of research include:

  • Molecular mechanisms and metabolomic profiles of metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes in South Asian Indians
  • Interactions of diet and other lifestyle factors with the genome in the context of type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease
  • Epigenetic and transcriptional regulation in the human placenta in adverse birth outcomes such as fetal growth restriction in the context of maternal malnutrition

Qualifications, experience, and aptitude:
Essential

  • Fellowship support for postdoctoral research (including but not limited to Dr DS Kothari postdoctoral fellowship, DBT/Wellcome India Alliance early career fellowship, DBT-postdoctoral fellowship, DST-Women Scientist scheme fellowship, UGC postdoctoral fellowship for women). Guidance will be provided for application to these schemes. · At least one peer-reviewed publication from Ph.D. thesis work as first/second author in an indexed journal · Strong verbal and written communication skills · Basic data analysis/ statistical skills Desirable · Experience in omics data management and analysis with statistical software R, SPSS and/or STATA · Experience in next generation sequencing/real-time PCR/randomized controlled trials/observational studies with human subjects
