Job Description
Role & responsibilities
Teaching:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and problem-solving sessions in various areas of mathematics to undergraduate and possibly postgraduate students.
- Develop and update course materials, including syllabi, problem sets, assignments, and exams, ensuring they align with current mathematical standards and practices.
- Assess and grade students coursework, exams, and projects, providing detailed feedback to enhance their understanding of mathematical concepts.
- Supervise and mentor students in their independent study or research projects, guiding them in mathematical modeling, problem-solving techniques, and theoretical analysis.
Research:
- Conduct independent research in a specific area of mathematics, aiming to publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research at national and international conferences, contributing to the advancement of the mathematical community.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research projects within the department or across different academic units.
Student Mentorship:
- Provide academic advising to students, assisting them in course selection, research opportunities, and career planning.
- Support students in developing analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for careers in mathematics or related fields.
Service to the Department and University:
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development, course design, and academic planning.
- Serve on departmental and university committees, contributing to academic policies, student recruitment, and other administrative functions.
- Assist in organizing departmental seminars, workshops, and conferences to promote the study of mathematics.
Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with the latest research and teaching methodologies in mathematics.
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and other professional activities that enhance teaching effectiveness and research skills.
Community Engagement:
- Engage in outreach activities that promote mathematics within the broader community, such as hosting math competitions, delivering public lectures, or participating in STEM initiatives.

Preferred candidate profile
Academic Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- A strong academic record with evidence of research potential in a relevant area of mathematics.
Experience:
- Previous teaching experience at the university level is highly desirable, though recent Ph.D. graduates with strong potential will also be considered.
- Experience in conducting independent research with publications in reputable mathematical journals.
Research and Publications:
- A solid record of research, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at academic conferences.
- Experience with mathematical modeling, computational mathematics, or applied mathematics is advantageous.
Teaching Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to teach various areas of mathematics effectively at the undergraduate level.
