Scope: Middle School – MYP
Reporting to: Head of Middle School, WLOL PHE
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess a diverse range of qualities, competencies, and experience, coupled with a strong background in swimming. A MS IB MYP PHE teacher should be a versatile and inspirational educator, proficient in delivering a comprehensive, inclusive, conceptual, and inquiry-based curriculum. They should be a dynamic teacher, a lifelong learner, a motivator, and an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, as well as an outstanding ability to prepare students to acquire 21st-century skills in a challenging and well-organized learning environment. Additionally, they should be well-versed in the discipline of swimming, providing professional expertise in this area. This individual should be committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning, making effective use of resources, and ensuring improved standards of learning and achievement for all students.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience.
- Possess qualified teacher status appropriate to the teaching duties to be undertaken.
- Have a strong background in swimming, along with experience and/or recent training in IB PHE.
- Holds updated certifications in swimming and first aid.
Knowledge and Skills.
- Demonstrate alignment with the ISL values of diversity, passion, identity, and understanding.
- Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in English within an international school setting.
- Exhibit a high level of understanding of current research on how children learn and the ability to motivate students to perform at their best.
- Inspire diversed culture with mixed ability classes through differentiated instruction and a variety of teaching styles, creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all students.
- Provide support for student needs in learning and pastoral matters.
- Be familiar with the principles of Conceptual Learning and Assessment for Learning.
- Demonstrate proficiency in teaching PHE.
- Maintain a high level of awareness of current developments in the high school MYP subject areas.
- Actively participate in an expanding IB school, particularly contributing to the development of team spirit within the specific subject area.
- Exhibit the ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
Responsibilities.
- Implement MS MYP policy and strategic plans.
- Effectively collaborate with the IB PHE team and curriculum leaders to foster a coherent MYP curriculum to specified classes, including selecting and efficiently managing resources in the classroom.
- Actively participate in designing, developing, implementing, and reviewing the IB PHE subject curriculum.
- Implement teaching, learning, assessment, and reporting approaches effectively.

- Enthusiastic in participating in the school’s professional development and contributing to regular staff training and meetings.
- Prioritize the health and safety of assigned classes, both within the school and particularly during swimming activities.

- Support and contribute to school community service and global citizenship goals.
- Participate in and contribute to the extra-curricular activities program of the school, including swimming-related activities.
